Exciting News! Announcing a CUNY/SUNY Resource Sharing Initiative!

by Mark Aaron Polger on 2024-01-22T14:57:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

CUNY’s Office of Library Services and the Office of Library and Information Services at SUNY are collaborating on a project to share physical resources through the Alma Library Services Platform. Starting in mid-January, patron requests that initiate in OneSearch may be filled by a library in either CUNY or SUNY.

Students, faculty, and staff across CUNY will benefit from faster and more convenient access to the wealth of physical information resources shared by our systems. Library staff will benefit from the simplified request processing workflows and robust usage statistics. We are leveraging the systems and services we already have to provide additional access to physical content at no additional cost.

Also starting in January, in support of the CUNY/SUNY initiative, CUNY library patrons will enjoy longer loan periods. Initial loan periods are increasing to 16 weeks (up from 8 weeks), with the option to renew material for a maximum loan length of 48 weeks. Items that are overdue will be declared lost after 60 days (up from 20 days), at which point patron accounts will be charged replacement fees. Due to the increase in available copies created by our resource sharing partnership, patron-initiated recalls will be disabled. However, library staff can continue to recall items needed for course reserves or other library business.

As always, all CUNY users are welcome at any CUNY library! Now that eduroam WiFi access has been implemented across the university, libraries are an even better place to study close to home, work, or class.
