ALLENDALE, Mich. –
Becca Hemingway (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) of the Kutztown University women's track & field team will hit the Great Lake state this weekend to compete in her first NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held in Allendale, Mich., at the Grand Valley State University Track & Field Stadium.
The senior, Hemingway, qualified in the high jump. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 29, at 5:15 p.m. There are 19 overall competitors looking to bring home a national title in the high jump. A total of 566 participants, 283 men and 283 women, will compete in the championships.
It has been a good week for Hemingway, as the Perkiomenville native was voted as the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Field Athlete of the Year, announced earlier this week. She won a gold medal at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in early May. Her career-best 1.77m (5-9.75) clearance at the season-opening West Chester University Tri-Meet on March 27, is ranked second nationally.
Hemingway is the second student-athlete from the women's track & field team to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in as many seasons following
Megan Kirn (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) in the javelin in 2019. The 2020 season and national meet were canceled due to COVID-19.
