Men's basketball alum Anthony Lee '19 inks professional deal in Iceland

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University men's basketball's second all-time leading scorer, Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) '19, signed with Hamar of the Icelandic Basketball Association (Körfuknattleikssamband Íslands - KKÍ), Friday, as first reported by Eurobasket.com.

Lee averaged a career-high and program single-season record 27.4 points per game as a senior for the Golden Bears in 2018-19. He also set program single-season records for points (822), 3-pointers made (92) and free throw percentage (90.1%) that season. The Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, native made 265 field goals, second most in a season in team history, 200 free throws (third) and registered 140 assists (sixth) in helping KU to a 16-14 record and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinal appearance.

"I'm excited to take this next step in my professional career," said Lee, who confirmed the signing. "I want to thank Kutztown University, my family, coaches and teammates for their support over the years."

One of just three Kutztown players to eclipse 2,000 points, Lee finished his storied four-year career with 2,292. He's the program's career leader in 3-point field goals (275) and 3-point field goal percentage (46.8%), and also ranks second in points, second in field goals made (773), third in free throws made (471), third in free throw percentage (87.7), third in steals (200), eighth in rebounds (656), eighth in blocks (102) and ninth in assists (324).

Lee was drafted in the second round (55th overall) of the 2019 NBA G League Draft by the Grand Rapids Drive but did not appear in a game for the Detroit Pistons' affiliate.

The 2018-19 PSAC East Athlete of the Year holds nine school game, season or career records in total. He netted a school single-game record 50 points at Pitt-Johnstown on Dec. 8, 2018, while also topping 40 on two other occasions.

Lee was a four-time All-PSAC East selection, including a pair of First Team nods. He received multiple NABC All-District and D2CCA All-Atlantic Region accolades along with being named D2CCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2018-19.

Hamar is located in the town of Hveragerði on the southwest part of the island and is less than an hour's drive southeast from the capital city of Reykjavík. The team went 19-3 in Division 1 of the KKÍ in 2019-20 and held the league's second-best record before the season was cut short in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Division I is the country's second-highest professional league behind only the Domino's Deildin, Iceland's premier men's league.

Hamar featured two American-born players this past season in leading scorer Everage Richardson, a Coastal Carolina product from Brooklyn, New York, and Fredericksburg, Virginia's Michael Phillips, who played collegiately at Howard University.

If travel restrictions are loosened by the end of the summer, Lee expects to leave for Iceland in late August to prepare for the 2020-21 season. Division I's regular season schedule typically runs from early October through the middle of March. Playoffs take place from late March through early-to-mid April.
