Coach’s Corner: Women’s bowling head coach Angela Reynolds

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Coach's corner is a weekly segment where fans get acquainted with Kutztown University head coaches. Our next coach in the spotlight is KU women's bowling coach Angela Reynolds.

Reynolds finished her first season at the helm of the Golden Bears program in 2019-20. She is a former All-American and four-year starter at Delaware State University, and is just the second head coach in the program's 12-year history. Reynolds was a three-time National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) All-American and three-time All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) selection for the Hornets.

A 2012 graduate of Delaware State, Reynolds received her bachelor's degree in psychology. She also took courses in the university's coaching management program. Reynolds has worked with Children's Behavioral Health Services Inc.

What makes Kutztown University the destination to be a coach? "Kutztown University is a beautiful campus and I enjoy the people I work with. They have made me feel very welcome to the Golden Bear Community."

Favorite place on campus and/or in town? "My favorite place on campus is the MSU, and in town it would be the Kutztown Tavern."

Why did you get into coaching? "The reason I got into coaching was I had an amazing coach in college that really opened my eyes to what kind of influence you are to players at an important time in their life.  I loved what she stood for and the things she taught me on and off the lanes."

Favorite memory as a coach and athlete? "My favorite memory as an athlete would have to be with my college team at DSU, when we won our conference championships the MEAC. As a coach, it would be my team coming together to defeat a ranked team in the 10th frame of every game in a best-out-of-seven format."

What are any gameday rituals? "There are no real gameday rituals, I just know I get way more nervous as a coach than I did as a player before the first ball thrown."

Favorite professional team and/or player? "My favorite professional team would be the Philadelphia Eagles."

If you weren't coaching, what would you be doing? "I would be working in schools with special needs/behavioral children in school."

Favorite thing(s) to do outside of coaching? "My favorite thing to do outside of coaching is spending time with my kids, Brayden (4) and Jordyn (2)."

Any sports heroes growing up? "My favorite athlete growing up was Jenny Finch (USA softball pitcher)."

Favorite movie and tv show? "My favorite TV Show would be Grey's Anatomy."

What advice would you give prospective collegiate student-athletes? "The advice I give to prospective collegiate students-athletes is to work hard and follow their dreams. You only have one college experience so enjoy it."

Any inspirational quotes you've heard that stays with you? "Happiness is not by chance, but by choice."
