KUTZTOWN, Pa. --
Kristina Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) has been the rock in the middle of the Kutztown University women's soccer defense all four years of her career. While her accolades shined on the field, she was also a standout in the classroom, epitomizing the phrase 'student-athlete.' On Thursday, Kutztown University announced Miller as the 2019-20 Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Miller is the program's second straight winner of the award, and third overall since the award began in 2005. She followed former running mate and team captain Alyssa Ryan, who earned the distinction last year.
"Tina is a highly motivated, hardworking and dedicated student-athlete," said head coach
Erik Burstein. "She not only wanted to perform her best on the field, but she was determined to excel in the classroom as well. Since her freshman year, she was fiercely committed to doing everything that was necessary to make sure she achieved at the highest levels on and off the field. I think it is safe to say, she has achieved her goals here at KU. She had a fantastic and highly decorated athletic career with our women's soccer program and she was an exceptional student in the classroom."
A two-year captain, Miller was a regular in Burstein's starting lineup over the last four seasons. She played in 80 games, tied for sixth-most by a player in program history, and made 75 starts on defense, fifth-most, during her time in Maroon and Gold. Miller recorded eight goals and seven assists in her four years, including a career-high four this season.
On the pitch, Miller earned All-Atlantic Region and All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors twice in the last two seasons.
In the classroom, Miller collected CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honors for the first time this past fall. She was also a United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Scholar, a D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner and a multi-year PSAC Scholar-Athlete, CoSIDA Academic All-District winner and Dean's List member.
Miller will graduate in the spring with a degree in business administration and finance. She accumulated a near-perfect 3.99 GPA.
The Golden Bears finished the 2019 season at 11-7 overall and 9-7 in the PSAC, ending the season with three straight wins and five-of-six. KU has now won 10 or more games in 18 straight seasons.
