Hadley Wiktor wins department of art student excellence award

CVPA Release

KUTZTOWN, Pa. Hadley Wiktor (Danville, Pa./Danville) of the Kutztown University field hockey team added on to her academic achievements as Kutztown's Department of Art recognized the senior with the College of Visual and Performing Arts Student Excellence Award.

This award recognizes one student from each of the six departments in the College of Visual and Performing Arts: Art, Art Education, Cinema, Television and Media Production, Communication Design, Communication Studies, and Music.

"To be selected for an award of this caliber is such an honor," said Wiktor. "I am extremely thankful that my professors even thought to nominate me. It's nice for all of my hard work is paying off."

Kutztown gave Wiktor the best of both worlds, both in the classroom and on the field hockey turf.

"I chose to come to Kutztown University so that I could have the opportunity to play field hockey and to be an art major," Wiktor said. "I personally don't know if I would have been able to juggle it at any other program. Coach [Marci] Scheuing has always worked with me and understood that studies always come first. It's funny because I think that a lot of my values I have gained from sports have bled into different area in my life such as my studies and work habits."

Wiktor is also a four-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction, and a multiple PSAC Scholar-Athlete and Dean's List member. The senior from Danville started 60 games on defense and played in 69 overall as a member of the Bears. Wiktor made seven career defensive saves, including four in 2017. She is a double major in Art History and Crafts, with a double concentration in Ceramics and Textile Arts, and holds a 3.96 GPA. Wiktor was a team captain in 2019.

During her time at KU, the Danville native has completed internships at the Allentown Art Museum and Berman Museum of Art. She will attend graduate school upon graduation from KU, with acceptances at the Art Institute of Chicago, Tufts University, Warren Wilson College, and George Washington University among others.

This past season, the Maroon and Gold reached the 15-win platform for the fifth time in program history, reached the PSAC championship game and NCAA Division II national semifinals, and ranked as high as third in the NFHCA national poll.
