The following is a list of software available for students, faculty and staff for home use. It is the expectation of the College that students, faculty and staff using such software comply to the specific software license agreement guidelines indicated within the software itself.

Available on CUNY Virtual Desktop

City Tech active students, faculty and staff have the ability to use CUNY Virtual Desktops to access desktop applications such as ArcGIS, SPSS, SAS, Matlab, Maple, Mathematica.

MS Office 365 ProPlus

City Tech is providing Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus to all active students, faculty and staff at no cost via the Microsoft Office in Education program. You can install this suite of productivity software on your personal devices, including desktops and laptops, tablets, and smart phones. This free version includes widely used Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, and Outlook. The Office 365 ProPlus license remains active until you leave the college. At that point, you'll be prompted to pay a license fee to Microsoft or stop using Microsoft Office

Faculty/Staff

Adobe Creative Suite is a collection of graphic design, video editing, and web development applications made by Adobe Systems for professional print, web design and web development.

Adobe Creative Suite is available for all CUNY’s faculty, staff and students.  Faculty/staff access is granted by the creation of a Named User account.  A CUNY IT Help ticket request MUST be submitted if access is needed.  This would allow faculty/staff to download and install the applications on a maximum of two devices.

Students

All currently registered students can access the software on campus-based lab computers ONLY.

Note: OCIS creates the packages and make available for CLTs to install in labs.  For users such as Interns, visitors or individuals that have bought the Adobe Creative Suite etc. those individuals can log into creative cloud using his/her personal credentials.  Each semester an All_APPs_For_LABs software bundle will be created to be deployed in Labs.

Creating Named User Accounts – Bulk User Import

For CUNY IT HelpDesk ticket requests of four or more individuals, user accounts will be created in bulk and stored in their respective departmental groups. 

This is will offer better organization of accounts, make it easy to locate user(s) specific to a department and for the removal of faculty/staff accounts who are no longer employed at CUNY.

Creating Named User Accounts – Single User Import

A CUNY IT Help ticket request MUST be submitted, a Named User account will be created and then moved to the associated departmental group.

Note:  For Bulk User Import e.g. student information, OCIS will attach a CSV file to the Grouplink ticket request for faculty to input student information.

Faculty/Staff

AcrGIS is a geographic information system (GIS) for working with maps and geographic information. It is used for creating and using maps, compiling geographic data, analyzing mapped information, sharing, and discovering geographic information, using maps and geographic information in a range of applications, and managing geographic information in a database.

ArcGIS is available for all faculty on campus-based computers, via CUNY VDI. Online access is offered for faculty/staff and can be obtained by submitting a Grouplink ticket request.

Students

All currently registered students can access the software on campus-based lab computers, via CUNY VDI (on and off-campus) and City Tech VDI (on campus access only).

Installation

  1. For installation on campus-based faculty/staff computers, a Grouplink ticket request MUST be submitted.
  2. For faculty/staff home-use (CUNY VDI) is recommended.
  3. For installation on personal devices, a Grouplink ticket request MUST be submitted to grant the necessary access to faculty/staff.
  4. For uploading student groups (as per faculty request), a CUNY IT Helpdesk ticket MUST be submitted along with the CSV file containing student information. The CSV file can be obtained here.

Note: Only citytech.cuny.edu or mail.citytech.cuny.edu email addresses should be included in the CSV file.

The City University of New York has secured Camtasia licensing to allow faculty to create, edit, and share instructional videos. These Camtasia videos can be distributed directly, shared using CUNY-provided cloud storage services like Dropbox or OneDrive, shared in Blackboard, or played during Blackboard Collaborate and Zoom online meetings.

Camtasia provides a number of features to help create videos, including:

How to Get Camtasia

If you require a copy of Camtasia, you will need to submit the CUNY IT Helpdesk ticket.  Please provide your CUNYFirst User ID.

The City University of New York has secured Snagit licensing to allow faculty to create, edit and share screen captures and recordings. Snagit screen captures can be edited and annotated for use in other applications, compiled into standalone video vignettes or added to a Camtasia instructional video. These Snagit screen captures can be distributed directly, shared using CUNY-provided cloud storage services like Dropbox or OneDrive, shared in Blackboard, or played during Blackboard Collaborate and Zoom online meetings.

Snagit provides a number of features to help capture your computer screen, including:

  •     Capture (“screenshot”) all or a portion of your screen
  •     Panoramic scrolling screen capture
  •    Copy and paste text from the screen
  •    Screen recorder to capture user interaction
  •    Record webcam
  •    Add audio
  •    Edit and annotate screen captures
  •     Create video from a series of screenshots

How to Get Snagit

If you require a copy of Snagit, you will need to submit the CUNY IT Helpdesk.  Please provide your CUNYFirst User ID.

CATS is an online resource for CUNY’s assistive technology professionals. CATS will provide a unified channel of information on best practices, emerging technologies and tested solutions that provide access to CUNY students with disabilities.

CATS will connect providers with informational resources, equipment and software reviews and real-life case studies of CUNY student-based experiences with assistive technologies.

Statistics is a powerful statistical software platform. It offers a user-friendly interface and a robust set of features that lets your organization quickly extract actionable insights from your data.

Advanced statistical procedures help ensure high accuracy and quality decision making. All facets of the analytics lifecycle are included, from data preparation and management to analysis and reporting.

For Labs, CLTs can obtain a copy of SPSS by visiting the City Tech IT Coordinators Team Software folder.
 
Faculty and staff must submit a ticket request to install SPSS on campus-based computers and for home use.

Maplesoft is technical computing software for engineers, mathematicians, and scientists to help do quick calculations, develop design sheets, teach fundamental concepts, or produce sophisticated high-fidelity simulation models

MatLab is a programming and numeric computing platform used by millions of engineers and scientists to analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models.

Office 365 is the E-mail system for all City Tech registered students. An E-mail account is generated for all City Tech students upon enrolling for classes. It is the expectation of the College that this E-mail be used for all College-related communications. In general, your address will be: firstname.lastname@mail.citytech.cuny.edu.

However, in the event of a name conflict, this may change. Lookup your E-mail address here.

To access Microsoft Office 365, please log in at https://login.microsoftonline.com.

Faculty/staff

Office 365 for Education is available to faculty and staff of City Tech. The Suite includes OneDrive for Business, SharePoint, Yammer and Teams. Widely used Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint, including the downloadable Office ProPlus suite is also available. It also includes 1 TB of storage per user.

RefWorks is an online bibliographic management tool that allows you to import citations directly from library databases, create bibliographies, and format your bibliography and in-text citations while you write in Microsoft Word.

SAS is a statistical software suite developed by SAS Institute for data management, advanced analytics, multivariate analysis, business intelligence, criminal investigation, and predictive analytics

Wolfram Mathematica is a high-powered computation with thousands of Wolfram Language functions, natural language input, real-world data, mobile support.

Arduino is an open-source hardware and software company, project, and user community that designs and manufactures single-board microcontrollers and microcontroller kits for building digital devices.
