Learn. Grow. Become. Over the past two years, the COVID-19 pandemic slowed the world, but it didn’t reduce the need for skilled, well-trained workers in the Piedmont Triad. As we come out of the pandemic, that need is greater than ever. GTCC’s dedicated staff responded to the pandemic in a very nimble manner, and as we emerge from the pandemic the Workforce and Continuing Education Division is in position to meet that demand. Our instructors utilized every imaginable option to make sure students stayed on course with online learning platforms, flexible class schedules and financial assistance with tuition and other expenses. Our programs remain vibrant with emphasis on preparing our students to enter the workforce with the most skill and knowledge possible with well-trained and passionate instructors and lots of hands-on training. NEW! VIDEOGRAPHY: BASICS OF VIDEO & MEDIA PRODUCTION This course will introduce students to the initial approach and core techniques for creating video and media-based content for any professional use. You will be guided through in-class lessons and outside assignments where you can acquire: production vocabulary, best practices for work-flow, knowledge of technical standards, tools for collaboration with teams and clients, and experience meeting project goals within given resources. LET BEAUTY FLOURISH

NEW! CREATE A BLOOMING GARDEN This course is designed to help you plan and create a blooming garden space. You will learn how to measure and prepare a site assessment, along with how to combine plants with respect to size, color, bloom time, texture and availability of plants. By the end of the six-class course, students will be able to create a plan with blooms all year. Homework will be required to perform the site assessment and take measurements. You will need to supply a pencil, eraser and straight edge. Laptops or tablets are recommended in order to help students perform web searches for plants while in class. Jamestown Campus

This class is for anyone who wants to redesign a room. By the end of this six-class course, students will be able to create a decorating plan for a single residential space. Students will plan the space, creating a simple floor plan and coordinate colors, fabrics, flooring, paint, lighting and accessories. Students will need to ‘shop’ online or in stores for their room. However, no additional costs are required. Students should be prepared to store projects on a thumb drive we can use in class. Laptops or tablets are recommended. Jamestown Campus

EXPLORE WHAT’S POSSIBLE PAPER COLLAGE AND MIXED MEDIA ART — NEW! In this beginner’s course, students will explore how to create a work of art that focuses on realism and the abstract image through paper collage and other mixed media art. Students will learn how to use and handle paper collage techniques and about supporting materials for a collage, while incorporating other mixed media, as paints, ink, graphite, and more. By the end of the course students will have the basic knowledge on paper layering, assemblage, decorative collage, and acrylic paint collage. Students will also have the opportunity to learn techniques for fabric collage, and color mixing paper, fabrics, and paint materials.

CREATE FESTIVE TREASURES CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT DESIGN — NEW! This course is designed for students with some sewing knowledge. Students will receive a glass ornament, a tube of seed beads, crystals (if we are using them), fire line and a needle. By the end of the course, students will be able to use seed beads to make a beautiful ornament that will last for years to come.

FINISH LIKE A PRO CAKE DECORATING BEGINNERS Learn how to ice your cake evenly; how to make a decorative border; how to ice flowers, roses, and pansies; and how to do simple writing techniques. At the end of the class, your cake will look professionally finished. You will receive a list of supplies on the first day of class, or the instructor will contact you prior to the beginning of the class. There will be an extra cost for supplies.

MAKE MOMENTS MEMORABLE EVENT PLANNING 101 Have you always wanted to be known as the “Hostess with the Mostest”? Do you dream about creating and hosting a fabulous dinner party or life celebration (i.e baby shower, birthday party, etc.)? Do you volunteer for a civic organization or belong to a church and would like to plan banquets or events but have no idea where to begin? Then Event Planning 101 maybe the answer for you. During this two-evening course, you will learn what to ask before planning an event, how to organize it and how to make it an experience for your guests using the five senses.

ELEVATE YOUR CRAFT JEWELRY DESIGN INTERMEDIATE This course is a continuation of jewelry design. Students should have an advanced beginner’s knowledge of jewelry design/making. Students will participate in making their own necklace, bracelet, and earrings. By the end of the course, students will have an intermediate knowledge in jewelry design. The student will also be able to estimate supplies they will need for their own projects, where to purchase them and what they cost. Tuition cost covers some of the basic materials but additional costs may apply.

DIVE INTO COLOR WATERCOLORS FOR BEGINNERS This course will teach the elements and techniques of painting using watercolors. Watercolor painting is a skill that anyone can learn! This fun, informative, stress-free class is designed for the beginner and leisure watercolorist. In each session we will study the life and methods of a unique art history master. Come and discover the unique and beautiful qualities of watercolor in a welcoming and supportive environment. There will be an extra cost for materials and the instructor will discuss this on the first day of class.

TAP INTO YOUR POTENTIAL TOP 10 THINGS TO KNOW AS A LIFE COACH Coaches must have the necessary life experiences and communication skills to be totally present for their clients, to really listen to them, and provide a safe arena to express ideas. This course will help students learn the top 10 things a Life Coach needs to know and will help you have a better understanding what Life Coaching is and what it is not. You will have the opportunity to build a foundation in Life Coaching through designing supportive coaching environments. This 20-hour course is the first step in pursuing a career as a Life Coach.

HELP OTHERS BE THEIR BEST LIFE COACH CERTIFICATION This 40-hour course is part two of becoming a Life Coach and analyzes the foundational environment on which the practice of coaching is founded while facilitating applicable concepts and methods. This is a continuation from the course, The Top 10 Things to Know as a Life Coach. The Coach is more engaged in the practice of coaching conversational styles as well as coaching-related skills including actively listening, accountability, questioning, planning, designing actions and goal setting. You will gain Mastery in Coaching with demonstration of core competencies as described by International Coaching Federation (ICF).

MAKE A STUNNING IMPRESSION JEWELRY DESIGN BEGINNERS This course is designed for students with limited knowledge of jewelry design/making. The students will receive information on choosing and purchasing materials and tools. AVIATION MANUFACTURING QUICK CAREERS PROGRAM Aviation programs at GTCC can put students on the leading edge of the industry with hands-on training at state-of-the-art facilities. Completing these courses opens up opportunities in aerospace as well as other industries. Courses offered include: – Composite Technology Level 1 — 4-week course for entry level and skilled professionals, covering the fundamentals of advanced composite fabrication, repairs, processes and technology. – Structures Assembly Program — 17-week course covering certification areas in Introduction to Structures (IS), Manufacturing Core Skills (MCS), and Structures Assembly (SA). – Structures Repair Program — 3-week entry-level course covering fundamentals for common sheet metal structural repair and practices used to assess and restore structure to serviceable condition. The Therapeutic Massage program offers training and skills required for success in a rapidly growing, dynamic profession. The curriculum consists of 660 hours of classroom and clinical training that is designed to prepare students to practice as a professional Massage Therapist in a variety of employment settings. – Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the North Carolina Massage and Bodywork Therapy Licensing Examination (MBlex) to become a licensed Massage Therapist in North Carolina. – Students will also receive a certification in Neuromuscular Therapy American Version (NMT), which will open doors in medical settings such as Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, Chiropractic and more.

SHAPE THE FUTURE OF MANUFACTURING CNC MACHINIST – INTRODUCTION This course provides an introduction to Computer Integrated Machining for students seeking a career in manual and computer numeric control (CNC) machining. It is a trade for individuals who like working with their hands. – Hands-on course requires 200+ hours and includes blueprint reading, metrology, manual (mills & lathes) CNC machining, and more. – Course material is structured to the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS). – Students will be prepared to work towards earning a third-party industry credential. BUILD TOWARD A STRONGER FUTURE INTRODUCTION TO CRAFT SKILLS FOR CONSTRUCTION This program introduces students to skills and tools that will help them get started in the construction industry. The training includes hands-on experiences and quality, professional instruction as a foundation for many of the construction trades. – 115-hour training provides an introduction to construction math, hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging material handling, carpentry, plumbing and electrical trades, along with basic communication and employability skills. – Students in the program are eligible to earn industry-recognized core credentials through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Our High School Equivalency (HSE) program offers classes to help adults earn a GED, Adult High School diploma, or other HSE credential. Classes range from beginning reading and math to advanced/college prep. Plus, students can take FREE English language classes, from beginner to advanced ESOL, including family literacy classes with free childcare. – Morning, evening and online options are available for all Adult Education classes. Studying at GTCC has impacted my life in many ways but the most important one is now I can express myself in English. — Rabila Mohamed, CNA In less than three years Rabila Mohamed, originally from Niger in Western Africa, has completed beginning English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), earned her GED, completed a CNA program and passed the state board exams, enrolled in a four-night-a-week phlebotomy program, started an advanced ESOL class to bolster her English skills and began working 10-hour shifts as a CNA.

POWER CLASSES FOR ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES GTCC’s Adult Education program offers free POWER classes for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities to work on reading, math, technology and workplace readiness skills. Our POWER Pathways program offers one semester of training for a particular career field to students with special needs. The course introduces the fundamentals for common sheet metal structural repair and practices used to assess and restore structure back to a serviceable condition. Liquid Penetrant Non-Destructive Testing The non-destructive testing field consists of several NDT methods employed by industry to evaluate the properties of materials by testing to determine the serviceability of components parts without causing damage. For more information, visit gtcc.edu/ndt

Eddy Current Level 1, Level 2 – NEW This course describes the principles, limitations, and advantages of nondestructive examination (NDE) electromagnetic testing as applied to industrial components. Emphasis is placed on electromagnetic testing (ET) techniques, including using different electromagnetic equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of NDE electromagnetic techniques and their applications.

Ultrasound Level 1, Level 2 – NEW A This course introduces the basic principles, limitations, and advantages of ultrasonic nondestructive testing as applied to industrial components and provides the initial elements of ASNT’s requirements for UT practitioners. Topics include sound wave modes and sound theory, and display modes are discussed and demonstrated through lab applications. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of ultrasonics, select proper equipment, and set-up an instrument for straight beam examinations.

Composite Vacuum Infusion – NEW A This course is designed to provide students the capability of producing advanced composite parts utilizing the vacuum infusion process. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to describe the different types and properties of standard vacuum infusion components, molds, and processes and produce composite parts using the vacuum infusion process (VIP) method.
