World Igbo congress alarmed by Buhari’s sack of Onnoghen

The World Igbo Congress (WIC) has said it is alarmed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension and replacement of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.

The World Igbo Congress (WIC) has said it is alarmed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension and replacement of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.

In a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Basil Onwukwe, the group said: “World Igbo Congress will not tolerate the abuse of powers and will not accept further manipulations of the Constitution on the eve of the general election. So, we call on the administration to reinstate Onnoghen immediately.

“This tactic was last seen in the effort to dismantle the leadership of the legislative branch of the Federal Republic of Nigeria through the same Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). It was rejected and it must be resisted now, as it is undemocratic and unacceptable.”

WIC observed that Buhari’s lack of respect for the rule of law is capable of truncating the country’s democracy, the reason Nigerians must stand together to save the result of the election outcome because illegality begets illegality.
