EMPHASIS on the International Year of Plant Health

PRACTICAL AND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR AGROFORESTRY ECOSYSTEMS: SCIENCE WITH FARMERS FOR AN EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF PESTS

Join us for the final conference of Horizon 2020 EMPHASIS project, hosted by the University of Torino!

EMPHASIS (Effective Management of Pests and Harmful Alien Species – Integrated Solutions) is a Research and Innovation Action funded by the European Union under the H2020 Framework Programme, which addresses native and alien threats (insects, pathogens and weeds) in both agricultural and natural ecosystems (field and protected crops, orchards, ornamental plants and forests).

The goal is to ensure a global food security system and to promote the protection of biodiversity and ecosystem services, by developing integrated response measures to predict and prevent native and alien threats. The effectiveness of the solutions is assessed, validated and transferred to ensure that they are in agreement with end-users’ needs and capacities.

After 48 months, the EMPHASIS project is now coming to an end. This final workshop will be the chance to disseminate the project results and to pave the way for their future exploitation.

The event will see consortium partners presenting the results and work of the project and external speakers debating on the EMPHASIS outcomes and on the actions need to successfully embrace integrated pest management (IPM) solutions.

EMPHASIS is a multi-actor approach R&I project that has been addressing for 4 years the needs and expectations of all interested parties: researchers, farmers, industries, consumers and policymakers.

The event is open to the public and is free of charge. The workshop will provide many opportunities to:

  • Discuss project scientific results related to ways of implementing new technologies to predict, prevent and protect our agricultural and forestry ecosystems from pest threats;

  • Debate with stakeholders on how to successfully embrace innovative technologies;

  • Present the effective implementation of results in agriculture in light of the forthcoming International Year of Plant Health 2020
