Global Columbia Collaboratory:
Education for Sustainable Development Program
Summer 2024 - Environmental Humanities & the SDGs: Brazil, Cuba, & The Gambia
Taking part in the summer session of the Global Columbia Collaboratory provides you with a forum for learning about global issues from international experts, peers around the world, and on-site/in-country field experiences in the Brazilian Amazon, Cuba, or The Gambia.
You, the student participant, will sharpen your understanding of environmental humanities, improve your cross-cultural and collaborative skills, enhance your global network, and gain experience for your professional portfolios.
During the summer session of the Collaboratory you will learn from sustainability experts, preeminent scientists, and local NGO activist-practitioners about various solutions and actions being taken to realize the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
Through Global Seminars, small group meetings, a collaborative project as a deliverable, and an in-country field experience, students will reflect, ideate, and collaborate to learn, discuss, and raise awareness about addressing pressing global challenges.

About
The 2024 Summer Session of the Global Columbia Collaboratory is a virtual global program offering short-term on-site field experiences in Brazil, Cuba or The Gambia.
Students will learn about environmental humanities and ways community based organizations are realizing the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the Summer 2024 Collaboratory application you have the opportunity to select which country you are interested in studying and visiting (i.e., Brazil, Cuba, or The Gambia)
The program combines virtual synchronous and asynchronous sessions with a short-term in-person field experience during the 15-week program. See “Timeline and Time Commitment” section for more information.
Through global seminars given by experts and locals in the field, sessions with locally led organizations, small group meetings with your peers, and a collaborative project, capstone, or practicum as a deliverable, students will reflect, ideate, and collaborate to learn, discuss, and raise awareness about ways to address pressing global challenges. Through participating in the Collaboratory, students have the opportunity to make a positive impact, gain valuable hands-on experience, and potentially fulfill requirements for many internships, practicums, research, or capstones!
The 2024 Summer Collaboratory is offered by the Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement in partnership with Columbia Global Centers and locally led organizations in designated countries.
