B.C.’s construction workers deserve better.
Flush Toilets. Now.
Tell Premier David Eby to support construction workers.
Most B.C. construction workers don’t have flushing toilets or running water at work. They’re forced to put up with dirty, smelly, overfilled and unlit porta-potties. Construction companies won’t fix this issue even though they often provide flushing toilets for managers and supervisors. Because of our work, Premier David Eby has committed to requiring flushing toilets on construction sites. This is amazing news, but there’s still a lot more to do.
Show your support for B.C.’s construction workers and send a message.
We are incredibly grateful that Premier David Eby has committed to a legal requirement to make flushing toilets mandatory at construction sites where the project has 25 workers or more.
But there’s still a lot more to do. Here’s what we’re asking for from the B.C. government:
Quickly move forward with the implementation of a legal requirement for flush toilets on construction sites of 25 workers or more.
Ensure any legal requirement for flush toilets ensures washrooms that are clean, lit, have cooling/heating and have running water for hand washing.
Direct WorkSafeBC to provide guidance and direction to construction companies on the new flush toilet regulations.
Require WorkSafeBC to follow up and enforce these changes in a timely manner.
The porta-potty was so dirty there were maggots.

It makes you feel like a second-class citizen. Office workers would never accept these conditions.

I’ve been on construction sites where they have trailers with flushing toilets. It’s safe, it’s secure and it’s completely possible.
James M., Safety Rep
There’s a lot of profit made in the construction industry for the developers but construction workers still don’t get flushing toilets.

Being forced to use filthy porta-potties is degrading and dehumanizing.
