Aresty RURJ Involvement Interest Form
Hello and thank you for your interest in learning more about the different ways you can get involved with the Aresty Rutgers Undergraduate Research Journal! We are a rapidly growing initiative and are always on the lookout for motivated individuals who would like to get more involved in the publication side of research. Here, we are outlining all the different capacities for involvement that exist within the Aresty RURJ so you can learn more about us and select the role(s) that interest you. Filling out this form is in no way committal, and is just to let us know to follow up with you regarding the role(s) that you express interest in.

Submitting this form will put you on our mailing list so that you can be kept up to date on any news about our journal. Involvement in any of these capacities warrants recognition on the Aresty RURJ website for contribution to the journal. If you know of an undergraduate, grad student, or faculty who you think may be interested in any of these roles or simply in learning more, please send this form over to them so they can be made aware of the opportunities. If you are interested, you can take a look at our journal publication here: https://arestyrurj.libraries.rutgers.edu/index.php/arestyrurj.
For any and all inquiries, please do not hesitate to reach out to aresty.rurj@rutgers.edu.

AUTHOR - This is open to any and all undergraduate researchers at Rutgers University across all three campuses. Authors submit their manuscripts to the journal to undergo a rigorous peer review process in which they are responsible for implementing revisions along the way. More information on eligibility and submission requirements can be found on the Aresty website. We accept submissions year round; the cut off for a publication always falls on December 31st--submissions at any point during the current calendar year will be part of the peer review process and publication for the following calendar year.

COPY EDITOR - This role is responsible for editing grammatical and mechanical errors in the submitted manuscript as the last step in our publication process. By the time the paper reaches the copy editor, its content will have already been extensively reviewed, and this step is to ensure it is polished and ready for publication. This role is not exclusive to those interested in research but is tailored specifically to undergraduates with a vested interest in writing and editing. Copy editing takes place during the summer with the small exception of a few training sessions during the spring semester. Applications for this role typically open midway through the spring semester.

UNDERGRADUATE PEER REVIEWER - This role involves participating in a year-long RURJ Reviewer Program where in the fall, students learn how to peer review in a class-like setting, and in the spring, implement this knowledge by reviewing the submitted manuscripts to the Aresty RURJ. Each section is led by two experienced undergraduates who have already gone through the reviewer program themselves and displayed excellence in their role. The reviewing process within Aresty RURJ places a large emphasis on collaboration with peers and instructors to produce the best product. Full completion of this program will result in a completion certificate from the Aresty Research Center. Applications for this role typically open around the end of the spring semester.

SENIOR PEER REVIEWER (SPR) - SPRs are the undergraduate students who teach and oversee the students in the reviewer program. The commitment for this role is a full year (including trainings in the summer) and is only open to those currently participating in the reviewer program, but is an excellent opportunity for growth in our organization for those interested in getting more involved!

EDITORIAL TEAM MEMBER - These undergraduate students run the back-end/logistics of the journal and reviewer program. There are five editorial team positions (editor, reviewer program director, managing editor, chief copy editor, and creative director), each with its own prerequisite requirements. Similar to the SPR role, these are opportunities for growth for students that are already involved in Aresty RURJ in some capacity. Further information about these roles will become available as students continue their involvement in Aresty RURJ.

GRADUATE REVIEWER - The graduate students in this role are a crucial part of the peer review process and review manuscripts after the author implements revisions based on the undergraduate review. They typically review manuscripts within their field of study, but may be asked to review submissions that are adjacent to their field. Outreach for graduate reviewer involvement typically begins early in the calendar year.

FACULTY REVIEWER - The faculty members in this role are a crucial part of the peer review process and review manuscripts after the author implements revisions based on the undergraduate review. Unlike all other reviewer roles however, faculty reviewers only review manuscripts that pertain to their academic discipline. Outreach for faculty reviewer involvement typically begins early in the calendar year.
