Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS)
Thank you to the diversity committee, the clinical and basic science departments, the Office of Graduate Medical Education, and the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association of NJMS for their support of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.  The call for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month commenced in June 1977 leading to the first ten days of May being proclaimed as Asian-Pacific Heritage Week and in 1990 George W. Bush signed a bill extending the week to a month.  The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the U.S. on May 7, 1843 and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.  The month of May is now recognized to celebrate the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

All events will be hosted at Rutgers NJMS and food will be served.  Rooms and other information to be updated periodically.
