As we move forward in our explorations in diversity, equity and inclusion it is important to gain understanding of definitions and concepts that directly impact our work as school librarians. Join us for a one hour conversation to create a common dialogue that will enable us to continue to create equitable space and experiences for all of our learners.
Checking Your Blind Spots: Applying a Racial Equity Lens in Your Personal and Library Spaces
Monday, August 17 @ 7:00- 8:30 PM
Facilitated by Joquetta Johnson, Specialist, Department of Equity and Cultural Proficiency, Baltimore County Public Schools
The first step to having courageous conversations starts with personal internal dialogue. Our cultural frames of reference shape the way we view the world and those in it . Before we can dismantle unjust structures and systems, we must lead from the inside out by mitigating, probing, and unpacking our own bias. Attendees will engage in reflective activities that will foster an awareness of how to check their blind spots and sharpen their equity vision.
