COVID-19 and Its Variants Change Another Holiday Season

Your Success Doctor Says Rise to the Challenge

PHILADELPHIA, PA / ACCESSWIRE / December 20, 2021 / The 2021-2022 holiday season is in full swing, and many families are eager to celebrate. Unfortunately, anxiety about COVID-19 and its variants threatens holiday gatherings and traditions yet again this year.

Dr. Lisa Maragakis, Senior Director of Infection Prevention at Johns Hopkins Medicine, says there are many things to consider to make this a safe holiday season. "Because many generations tend to gather to celebrate holidays, first make sure that everyone is vaccinated and boosted. Protect those not yet eligible for vaccination, such as toddlers, those at higher risk for a severe case of coronaviruses like grandparents, and those with a compromised immune system or chronic illness. Don't be shy. Encouraging family and friends who will participate in your in-person celebration says that you care about them."

The National Institute of Health encourages families to consider breaking with tradition this year and celebrating in ways that do not involve in-person contact.

Dr. Millicent Hunter, also known as "Your Success Doctor" of The Baptist Worship Center in Philadelphia, PA, says, "many people are experiencing burnout from the pandemic and experiencing tremendous anxiety about the new normal and what it will look like. We need to remember every crisis brings a "gift" and that gift is the opportunity to learn and grow from a challenging experience."

Your Success Doctor adds, "this year may present some complex emotional and logistical challenges, but the American can-do spirit will rise to meet those challenges. Celebrating holidays alone or with a few household members can sound rather dreary. But, if you look at it another way, there are many opportunities to make this holiday season one to remember in new and different ways."

She adds, "many restaurants provide special holiday menus and earlier hours for dining for families. Maybe this is an opportunity to go out for your holiday dinner and give your family, the chef, and the cleaning crew a break."

Dr. Hunter also has some ideas to entertain the kids. The Santa's Club Way offers intimate live video conversations with Santa. She says, "the kids can enjoy a virtual visit with Santa from the comfort, convenience, and safety of your home! You pour the cocoa, and they will provide the magic and the memories."

Your Success Doctor also suggests helping others as a way to get rid of holiday blues. She says, "volunteer through local outreach organizations or your church. Maybe going grocery shopping for someone who may need help will lift your spirits."

The CDC urges families to think out of the box and put safety first. Your Success Doctor agrees and adds a message of hope, "tis' the season to be jolly. It certainly can be with a bit of creativity and imagination."
