INDIANAPOLIS – Director of Community Engagement for the Community Alliance of the Far Eastside (CAFE) Cheria Caldwell has been named the third Anthem Assists Award winner this year, the Indiana Fever announced today. Caldwell will be honored on Saturday at Indiana Farmers Coliseum when the Fever take on the Phoenix Mercury at 1 p.m. ET.
As director of CAFE, Caldwell developed a weekly food drive to serve Indianapolis families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The contributions organized by Cheria and CAFE for Marion County residents during one of the most tumultuous times we have ever encountered is unequivocally a reason why we wanted to make sure Hoosiers are highlighted in making our communities a better place,” Fever President Dr. Allison Barber said.
Each year, she helps organize the Far Eastside community festival to bring different businesses, individuals and cultures together in an effort to highlight successes, but also emphasize the critical resources still needed for commercial and residential outlets. In addition to her work with CAFE, Caldwell participates in community cleanups and advocates for beautification projects throughout the city.
“Winning the Anthem Assists Award feels like a win for Far Eastside because we are a dynamic and resilient community,” Caldwell said. “It’s such an honor to be recognized for doing work that I’m passionate about in a community that I love.”
