Smart Jocks #2

The Fadeaway

Rate this book
Alternate cover edition of ASIN B07PFR14GV

This college jock is a total player. He’s used to getting who and what he wants. Until her . . .

Katrina

The hottest guy on campus won’t stop asking me out. I know that sounds like a good problem to have, but this guy… this guy has no idea how complicated my life is trying to juggle being a single mom and college student.
Every Thursday, he shows up at the café where I work. His cheesy pickup lines and arrogance should have me completely annoyed. I’m not. I can’t say yes, but Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

Joel

The hottest girl on campus won’t go out with me. I know, I know, that sounds presumptuous, but this girl… this girl has gotten under my skin, and I can’t seem to walk away.
Every Thursday, I show up at the café where she works. She’s fed me every excuse in the book. I should give up and bang one of the many girls blowing up my phone. I’m not. Even when she says no, Thursday is my favorite day of the week.

The Fadeaway is the second book in Rebecca Jenshak’s ‘Smart Jocks’ series. I liked the first book, but this one… this one I loved!

Joel is the playboy of his basketball team. He’s rich, a player, and an all around great guy. And he’s got his eye set on the one girl who won’t give him the time of day. Katrina finds Joel attractive and would love to go out with him, but there is something holding her back… well, someone. She’s a single mom and full time college student and doesn’t have the time to date.

Joel is persistent if nothing else. He wears Katrina, or Kitty to him, down and finally gets her to agree to go out with him. I loved this couple together. I loved how Joel reacted to her having a son and how he interacted with him. I also loved how strong Katrina was, and how finding out Joel’s back story really gave us so much insight to why he is how he is.

These two have so much chemistry and their story had so much depth. It was much more than just a fun read (though it was a lot of fun) about a jock and a single mom. It had steam, humor, and most of all, heart. I listened to the audio book which was narrated by one of my favorites, Teddy Hamilton and also Summer Morton. Both did a fantastic job and it was an easy to listen to book.

This is such a refreshing new adult sports romance. As soon as I finished it, I jumped straight into book 3 because I couldn’t wait to read about Zeke and Gabby (Spoiler alert: I loved their book just as much as I loved this one) and I’m so excited to get to Nate’s book asap! I’m loving the series so much and recommend it to those who love NA/sports romance!

Come on. I’ve been asking you out for five months. Throw a guy a bone.”
Or, you know, let me stick mine in you.

OH MY GOD! Where did this book come from?! I have so many feelings! SO MANY FEELINGS! Marry me, Rebecca Jenshak. And read me bed time stories like this forever. What? Too much? Fine *huffs*. I'll tone it down. Maybe. Probably not. WHATEVER. Stop judging me. This book was fantastic, ok?!

Now look, it's no secret that I'm a picky s word. I own it. And I'm especially picky when it comes to New Adult romance. But this book? This was EVERYTHING I love about this genre. It was utterly charming and completely unputdownable. It was refreshingly sweet with just the right amount of sexy. It was humorous and a touch quirky. It was all of the things, people! ALL OF THEM!

I love me a playboy hero, and you can't spell playboy without J-O-E-L- M-O-R-E-N-O. OK, so you can, but I'm trying to make a point here so just go with me on this. Joel caught my attention the second he appeared as a secondary character in The Assist and I've been itching for his book ever since. What's more delicious than the man that can get any woman he wants on campus having to work for it with a woman that seems to want none of his charm while secretly mooning over him? NOTHING. That's a trick question. NOTHING IS MORE DELICIOUS.

Katrina is too busy jugging being a single mom of an adorably sweet three year old boy and college to give the time of day to the campus womanizer. Joel may be a hot jock with charm oozing out of every pore, but he spells bad news for her. Unfortunately for her libido, it's been a while, and Joel is nothing if not determined to wear her down.

There is nothing more charming and entertaining to read that Joel's wooing of "Kitty" and finally agreeing to go out with him. Actually, there is one thing, and that's Joel showing her the real man underneath the manwhore persona. Under the good looks and playboy demeanor lies plenty of depth, and I was ravenous to unravel every layer.

Joel and Kitty together was pure magic. There was so much chemistry between them, it was downright incendiary. Katrina's son was one of the best secondary characters and of course I loved the cameos by the rest of the team. I'm already dying for Z and Nathan's books.

If you're looking for a New Adult Sports romance that's the whole package, look no further. The Fadeaway has everything; the charm, the feels, the humor, and all of the romance. I loved it from beginning to finish and I'm not officially obsessed with all things Rebecca Jenshak.

Overall Opinion: This had some good times as well as some frustrating moments. I like the single parent angle in romances and I especially like it when it's with an unlikely hero, so this was right up my alley! I just feel like where it could've gone to a different level for me as an emotional reader it fell a little flat. I just wanted more. Disappointed, but I'll give it 3 "just okay" Stars overall.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Katrina and Joel's story. Joel meets Katrina and instantly is attracted to her but he soon finds out that his typical playboy ways won't work for her, so he visits her weekly at her work and asks her out for months. Eventually, single mom Katrina says yes in exchange for some help for the play that she is the screenwriter for. There are some funny scenes, some cute 3 year old kid scenes, some sexy times...and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Katrina and Joel's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well (other than the abrupt ending).

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H (Hero) rating: 3.5 stars. Joel. I liked him but when he pushed away I wanted him to work a little harder in the grovel.

h (heroine) rating: 4 stars. Katrina. I liked her. I appreciated how tough she was and how she was a good mom.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Mild. They have some alright tension and chemistry but not really hot full scenes -- and there is not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: No

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Not between mcs

Separation:Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ended abruptly with what I would call a HFN ending. I wanted much more, as they only just shared "ILYs" and there was no real closure for their future.

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Confession: I have a string of unfinished romances sitting in my kindle (at about 70%). I guess I often enjoy the build-up, the couple being happy and avoid the inevitable complication. (I know a HEA is usually not far off, but still.) This was one of those books. I actually started over because I had forgotten so much. And I am really glad I invested the time and finally finished it.

Joel Moreno is carefree and the heart of the party. When Katrina is the first girl to ever turn down the popular basketball player, his competitive nature kicks in and he is persistent in trying to persuade her. What he doesn’t know: Katrina is hesitant because she has a three-year-old son, Christian.

Though many common tropes are used (player reformed – one special girl to cure his promiscuous ways; player who is jaded because he’s been blinded/burned by love; single mom in college, insta-lust etc.), Jenshak manages to wrap them in a great package, with humorous writing and well-developed characters.

The contrast between Joel the player and Katrina could not be starker: she is as close to a virgin as a woman with a child can be (she only had sex that one time). Though I am not sure whether that was strictly necessary, I get it’s a nice juxtaposition. My favorite parts about the novel were the relationship between Joel and Christian and the banter between Joel and Katrina – ‘cause who doesn’t love banter, right?

All in all, a fun, heart-warming, drama-free romance you should definitely read.

Side note: This would have benefited from a better editor – errors in punctuation and spelling (and even a few in continuity) were quite distracting. But then, those are kind of my pet peeve…

“If you’re not willing to risk it all, then you don’t want it bad enough.”

All I can say is that Joel and Katrina’s story did not disappoint. A single mom and a basketball playing playboy don’t really seem like they should work, but both of them are more than just their top layers. Katrina is working hard to be a good student and amazing mom. She is strong and I love that in a heroine. I also love when they stay themselves while falling in love. I think Jenshak does a great job keeping both characters true to themselves while bringing them together. Joel is focused on playing basketball and a good time, but Katrina and her son bring out the sweet dedication he’s being trying to keep buried down deep. So so swoon-y this guy. 😍 If you like college romance with all the complications of a single parent romance, but still the vibe of college, then this book will meet all your needs. It’s sweet. The bit of angst isn’t dragged out needlessly and the romance is everything. Love this book and this series. Can’t wait to see what smart jock we get next.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I devoured this book, I absolutely loved it and I have discovered a new author that I really recommend.

Single mum Katrina loves Thursdays because that's when super hot jock Joel Moreno comes in for a coffee and a question - "will you go out with me?"

She always says no, because life is way too complicated to date someone who is a known commitment-phobe, but she dreads the day that he gets bored of asking her out.

Joel doesn't usually pursue girls, and completely oblivious to her role as a mother thinks he will crack her eventually, it's obvious she's into him so why would she not?

I fell in love with both characters equally, Katrina was a determined and focused woman whilst Joel, despite his well-known reputation, was a loving and loyal man. (Plus, bonus points for being Mexican American, my weakness!)

Then we have little Christian, cute as a button, and takes a huge role in this story.

Low drama, high swoons, and a delish slow burn <3

Single mum meet baseball player, and I mean player.

I know, I know, nothing we haven’t seen before but still, Katrina and Joel were such a cute couple ♥️

But if I could, I would have ripped my eyes out with this:

”Pussy coated bacon… My new favorite”.

Don’t even ask.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL: THE PERFECT MALE SPECIMEN FOUND 🔥🔥🔥

I loved him even in the first book of the series, because if you write about a manwhore, you better write him to be like Joel Moreno. Easy going, confident, respectful to the women he sleeps with, which is the reason there are no bitter women cursing him after their one-night-stands and generally a good person, who is so loyal and attentive to his friends. I had high hopes for his book, and the author delivered!

DISCLAIMER: This is probably one of the, if not the first single parent romance I've read, so this book is like a baseline for all my emotions and thoughts about this particular trope.

This story was good from start to finish, the pacing never wavered, the plotline consistent. The development of the main relationship was done greatly, the conflict that pushed them apart was relatable and believable. It felt organic due to their circumstances, so I wasn't frustrated so much and still rooted for them to get back together.

Joel Moreno is the embodiment of the saying 'If there's a will, there's a way'. He went above and beyond to win the heroine, Katrina, his Kitty over. Taking on another man's child with so much empathy and heart while doing it, was an unexpected treat from such a life of the party kind of guy. The way he also cared for his friends, was heartwarming and hilarious at the same time. Setting an alarm to remind Wes to 'rub one out' before his big date was SOO Joel. But his interactions and care for Nathan is what melted my heart. Not to mention how affectionate and a true natural he was with Kitty's son, Cristopher.

The heroine, Katrina, is simply wonderful. I have no idea how she could juggle being a single mother on top of her college studies, work and screenwriting. Made me actively conscious of strength and dedication single parents showcase every day.

I liked the girls' friendship here. All of them seem to have come together in a neat friend group and it's a beauty to watch.

Huge thanks to Rachael for recommending this series! This book is simply a gem!

Audiobook review. It takes a truly great story for me to buy the reformed manwhore bit. Especially when the heroine is a single mother. This novel was crafted in such a way that I not only believed it but I fell in love with the characters!

Joel is a sexy, smart jock with a lot to offer a lady, only he wasn’t interested in doing so until Katrina. Katrina’s life is complicated and she’s got very little time for distractions but Joel is not having it.

The plot takes us through their courting and growth as they get to know more about one another and themselves. It was sweet, funny, and emotional.

The narrators, Teddy Hamilton and Summer Morton did a fantastic job with these characters. Everything was on point from the tone and pitch to the emotions and little nuances in their voices.

The Fadeaway was a great, unique story that I could not put down. Katrina’s strength fascinated me, and I admired her drive to accomplish her life goals despite the circumstances life dealt her. Don’t judge a book by its cover with Joel. His persona showed a player and partier, but he had such a sweet spirit. I’m excited to see where this series goes in the next book.

If you are a fan of Elle Kennedy's Off Campus series, read this.
If you are a fan of Sara Ney's Douchebag series, read this.
If you are a fan of Sarina Bowen's Ivy League series...yeah, you guessed it, READ THIS.

I'm a huge of the NA sports romance sub genre. It's addictive as hell and makes me go back in time. Anyhoo, if you haven't met Joel Moreno yet, get ready. He is the ultimate player and will charm your panties off. He will make you swoon and laugh and then leave you but with a smile on your face.
He is such a blast with his cocky attitude that he uses to cover up the depth he of feelings he is capable of. Once you learn about his first love your heart will melt for him. I adored Joel.

A guy like that needs a worthy heroine and Katrina is exactly that. She is a single mom, juggling life and school. Going out on a whim isn't something she can do so she keeps saying no to Joel's invitations to take her on a date. I couldn't wait for her to finally say yes. She gave Joel a run for his money and I loved that about her, he had to really earn and deserve her. Katrina was such a good mom, always making sure that she put her little guy first, who was, btw. such a beautiful side character. So sweet, so cute. I loved Christian and Joel's scenes together, their bond grew strong fast.

The flow of this story is effortless, it makes the book absolutely unputdownable. I just didn't want to stop listening even a single second. It helps that we get a stellar narration duet - Teddy Hamilton is one of the best out there and one of my top favorites - the way he performed Joel was just brilliant! I'm new to Summer Morton but she, too, did a fantastic job breathing life into Kitty!

I'm sure a lot of people will have fun with this utterly adorable, charming story that has low angst, buckets of humor and endearing characters. I regret nothing.

I really liked the first book in the series so I couldn't not pick the second one.

It was cute and I loved the scenes with Joel, Katrina and Christian together. The ending was a bit rushed imo, I expected more but maybe we'll see them in the next book (which I'm super excited about because it's about Zeke and Gabby).

I don't talk about women like that (even if they're fictional) but Polly was such a b*tch. I'm so glad Joel broke up with her.

It was an enjoyable read and I'll definitely read the next book in the series soon. 3 ⭐

5 - "Ever think you’re not the person everyone thinks you are...?" Stars!

I fell in love with the characters in this series in the first book, and ladies’ man Joel Moreno was high up there on the list of likes, and Rebecca did not disappoint with his story. The second book in the Smart Jocks series, pairs our affable charmer up with a single mom, and The Fadeaway was a book I read on one sitting because it just pulled me in from the get-go.

"I know you better than you think I do…"

One of my favourite story-lines, is when a commitment-phobe falls, and falls hard, especially for the last person he expects to see himself with. Doesn’t hurt that he was an absolute sweetheart to begin with, but I just loved the way he stepped up and did all the right things with Katrina and her young son Christian. And what starts out as a once a week flirtation over a serving of coffee turns into so much more when Joel runs into Katrina out for an evening with the girls.

Having Joel show up for me reminded me that I needed to let more people in. not everyone is going to let me down…

Katrina has learned to be independent and look after herself and her young son after practically raising him on her own, asking for help and relying on other people for anything does not come easy. I think that’s part of the reason that the relationship building between the pair of them as the story progressed worked so well, because although their lives are vastly different in pretty much every way, they each offer the other something they are sorely missing, and it was just a joy to read.

Leading with my heart is too risky… Letting my body do all the feeling seems a safer and more enjoyable mission…

Loved this book even more than its predecessor, we get to see more of Wes and Blair as well as get to know more of the players on the team. Joel tips Wes as my favourite, but only just, I don’t know how long he will hold that title for though with the ornery and virtually unknown Zeke up next in The Tip-Off which thankfully is due for release next month. Having loved both books so far I cannot wait for his and Gabby’s story, although I have to say I think I’d be happy to read anything by this author now, she has cemented herself into my favourites!

**3.5/5 stars**

I liked this book more than I thought I would. I don't mind single parent trope but I also don't go out of my way to read them. The story was well done and not dramatic or heavy, it showed the struggle of being a single parent without drowning in the clichés. I thought it was more about trusting someone, opening up to them, committing to them.

The plot was very simple, nothing really outstanding but still pleasant, even if it had a slow pace. Joel is a very popular basket ball player who has had no issue sleeping with women here and there. When he goes to the college café and sees Katrina for the first time, he is instantly bewitched by her heterochromia (different colored eyes), and how beautiful she was. Right away, he asks for her number, asks her out but she rejects him. If at first he sees her as a challenge, his feelings towards her quickly become more serious.

Being a young single mom, Katrina always put a wall between her and guys who might be interested in her. She was very independent and raised her son mostly alone as the father wasn't really present, always finding excuses to not be around. When she met Joel, she was instantly attracted to him but knew about his reputation. She knew deep down that she would probably scare him away if she told him she was a mom. Rejecting him was a way to keep the fantasy going, letting him pursue her and work for it. I thought she was a level headed character with realistic worries. Even though she was in a hard spot with a son to take care of, work and study, she still pushed through and tried to stay positive. I honestly liked her a lot.

“¿Quieres tener sexo en mi carro?” [Do you want to have sex in my car?]
“I don’t know what you said, but it sounded hot.”
“Estás caliente, Katrina.” [You're hot, Katrina.]
She bites her lip looking all unsure but somehow still seductive and I can’t fucking take it.
“Come here, Kitty.”
“Ask me in Spanish,” she says coyly.
“Trae tu trasero aquí.” [Get your butt over here.]

Their complicity was super cute

It's strange, Joel should've been a hero I didn't care for but I ended up liking him right away. Sure, he had a reputation of sleeping around a lot but he always treated women well. The best part was that in this story, we never actually see him with another woman than Katrina since he is committing to pursue her and only her. He remained celibate after meeting her. He was essentially a good guy, determined to have Katrina. Yes, at first he saw her as a challenge, but when he learned that she was a single mom, his view of her changed, and his feelings became more serious. He was very sweet with her and her son, protective and honestly, father material.

Probably got enough seventh grade mojo up in here with the dry humping alone. I’m giving myself a mental high five for my maturity when Kitty’s orgasm sets me off and I come in my damn pants.-Joel

This made me chuckle 🤭

For most of the book, it was a matter for Katrina and Joel to get on the same page. Joel had commitment issues he had to work on and Katrina needed to trust and learn to rely on others a bit more. I thought they brought the best in each other; her grounding him while he helped her getting of her shell, to let loose. They had a nice chemistry, many funny and cute moments.

I took away 0.5 star due to the lack of steam. It was a slow paced story with a slow burn romance and when came the time for some spiciness, the scenes were short and there was even a fade to black for the main scene after the descriptive foreplay. Now this is not the end of the world, but I was teased for so long that I got a bit upset when I didn't get much. There wasn't much drama but also, there wasn't much action. I wished there been slightly more on that front, but it was a good book no less.

I liked that the characters from book 1 played secondary roles in this one, and not just glimpses. I'm also excited for Zeke and Gabby's story. What a nice surprise, the first book was ok but I really adored this one! I just couldn’t put it down, I love the romance a lot and the story was captivating! Katrina and Joel has an amazing banter , there was angst they were flirty and sweet too!

Joel has wanted to take Katrina out since the very first time he asked her out.I loved how much he wanted her and what he done for her! He is a really sweet sexy and swoon worthy hero! He was perfect for her, the only reason this wasn’t a 5 stars for me is Katrina who frustrated me a little bit!

Overall it was an amazing story, I’m so glad I give it a try and I can’t wait for the next book!

Spoilers ahead,3.5* rounded up

Ok it's late, I'm sleepy so this is gonna be quick...... ish 😂

H goes to the cafe where the h works every Thursday to ask her out but she keeps shutting him down until she realizes he can speak Spanish and thus assist her with her play.
He's a known manwhore and she got pregnant from her one and only hookup and hasn't been on a date since
In the previous book I got the impression that he was with other girls after being shut down by Katrina but I'm not going to go back and check....why? I really enjoyed the second half of this book so I'm going to wrap myself up into a safety bubble and say he wasn't with anyone else since he started pursuing her. They have a convo about STD's and it sounds like he'd been celibate a while but no outright confirmation that he was from the time he started trying to date her months ago( if anyone's got confirmation that he was actually celibate I'd like to know if he wasn't I definitely don't wanna know)
The first part of this book he was egotistical and had typical horrid manwhore thoughts about the girls girls girls
By the time they actually went on their date he was pretty cool and I loved him with her son
Katerina was the shit! Period! Lol Actually I loved her, she was a great mom and though she had her challenges she powered through beautifully. I adored her relationship with her son and how sweet, calm and mature she was. I've got a special place in my heart for single parent romances and I loved that aspect of this one
The H did the typical push away when things get too emotional because his high school girlfriend was a bitch who cheated on him and made him believe their daughter was his but it actually turned out to be the next guy's child. After that the H swore off love and committment and proceeded to fuck around a lot(typical weak explanation for a manwhore) he was however a nice guy and I liked him. Thankfully he didn't hookup with anyone else while he attempted to get his shit together
Eventually he goes back , Declares his love and they get a hfn ending

***** I'm hopeful that we get updates or a book with all the couples because I'd like to know if his dreams of being picked by the Lakers to play ball actually came through

All in all, while encounced in my safety bubble I'll count this one as a win as the love I've got for the sweetness of Christian, Katrina and the second half Joel is stronger than my need to knee him in the balls for his thoughts on the first part of the book!

Moving on to the reason I even bought the first book in this series in the first place.........my man Z!

Christian's father was around but he didn't cause drama between the couple. He actually matured enough to be around more for his son so I had no issues with him

‘If I give my heart to Katrina, it will fucking ruin me when she eventually walks away.’

So, as you know we read The Assist, our first book by Rebecca Jenshak and had to jump straight into The Fadeaway! Whilst we really enjoyed the first book in this series falling in love with Wes and Blair, as well as the rest of the jocks, there really was something very special about Joel and Kitty’s story. It ticked all the boxes for us. The two jocks that intrigued us the most coming out of The Assist was Joel and Zeke. The cad and the silent giant. Both had us gagging for their story. So, of course, we jumped straight in and we were not disappointed! Whilst each book can be read as a standalone we absolutely recommend reading this series in order as there’s an overlapping storyline threaded through them. We’ve fallen in love with a new series and a new to us Author and now we eagerly await the third book which is our boy Zeke’s story. This is the best place to be as a reader!

‘I want him to fantasize about me the same way I fantasize about him. That’s all he can ever be. All I can be to him. I’m okay with that. Fantasy is almost always better than reality and Joel Moreno is my perfect fantasy. Why mess with that?’

Joel Moreno is a powerhouse of gorgeousness and we fell hook line and sinker for him! Not only is he an amazing sportsman, but he also has a huge heart and a wonderful sense of compassion. Joel has a dream, but he’s also got a past that haunts him and affects his decisions. Having a fantastic family support network and awesome mates behind him helps yet doesn’t quite outweigh his reluctance to commit to a relationship. However, when he meets his Kitty, Joel knows she’s something special as soon as she refuses his advances. Joel must play the game of his life to convince Kitty that he’s here to stay. Sometimes though, what we wish for may not necessarily be what we’re emotionally ready for once we get it, and past experiences play a huge part in this.

“Oh Kitty, you’ve wildly underestimated me.”

Kitty is the type of heroine we immediately connect with. She’s young but has her head screwed on right, and as a single mum shows strength and maturity that belies her age. Her character had real depth and whilst she falls, she doesn’t do so easily. Her circumstances have scared her off. Kitty doesn’t play games, causes no unnecessary drama yet has a sweet vulnerability hidden by her strong exterior.

“Why did you turn me down thirteen times?”
“Because you’re Joel Moreno.”

We loved the banter, the push-pull and the quiet understanding and compassion each showed the other. It was such a wonderful story which had real emotion, real laughter and a real sense of belonging, family, and friendships. Whilst at times our hearts broke, it felt like everyone had to work at getting to a place of acceptance and growth which this Author wrote perfectly. Once again the camaraderie between the jocks was super special and we absolutely loved the scenes with them all together! Now we’re jonesing for Gaby and Zeke’s book! Bring it on….

‘Blinded by love. Fucking love.’

A college romance about a star athlete and a single mom. It’s was pretty decent for a sports romance. They didn’t go into too much depth of anything and never really had a series conversation but it was a fun, light read.

I just wish Joel worked harder to get her back in the end. Why is it more times than not, it is the girl that has to reach out and give it another shot? Especially when it’s the guy who messed up. I wanted her to cut him out 100% then for him to realize what he’s missing and try to get her back. Not her constantly reaching out and all it take is one kiss and they’re all good. It’s bothering me more and more with each book I read like this. Some good, much deserved grovelling is my Kryptonite and I feel cheated when I don’t get it lol.

THE FADEAWAY was probably one of my most highly anticipated books for 2019, and it was everything I hoped it would be, and so much more. We first met Joel in THE ASSIST, which was Wes and Blair’s book. He came across as the typical jock; rude, crass, bigheaded and a massive player. Dont get me wrong, he is ALL of those things, on the surface, but in this book we see a totally different side to him. He is sweet, loving and actually very insecure.
I hoped that his leading lady was going to be single mum, Katrina. So imagine my excitement when I discovered that these two would be getting together. They could not be more different if they tried, and this makes for a great story.
From the very first page, I was laughing out loud at Joel’s antics, and the banter just kept on coming throughout the book. Rebecca Jenshak has an incredible way with words and knows how to get that perfect balance when it comes to the angst/romance/comedy. She makes me fall in love with her characters so easily, and I become engrossed in her stories. I have read all of her books to date, and you can clearly tell how comfortable she is writing in this sub-genre. College sports romance is her thing, and I hope she never stops writing it. If college sports romance is your thing too, then I highly recommend you pick up this series and get yourself acquainted with the guys and girls of Valley U.

Didn't make it past the sample. Actually-- didn't make it past the first paragraph. Not in the mood for a manwhore hero and esp not when the first sentence of the book is about a "marathon fuck fest" he had last night.

After putting down The Assist I immediately had to run off to KU and grab The Fadeaway and I loved it. I am a huge sucker for single parent romance and I love college sports romance and this combined them both perfectly.

Joel was the ultimate cocky, man whore player and after seeing the procession of ladies through his room in The Assist I had high hopes for his fall. When I realised his leading lady was single mum Katrina I was super excited. I really wasn't expecting her for him.

But he was perfect for her. He was so patient and determined and even knowing he was holding back from a real relationship with Katrina I still fell so hard for him. Katrina was so strong and capable and I adored that she didn't fall for the Joel Moreno hype even as attracted to him as she was.

The whole book was great and I am off to grab The Tip off from KU now so I can continue my smart jock binge because Z has the whole strong brooding thing down.

!!! Fangirling alert!!!
Where to begin to describe how much I loved and enjoyed The Fadeaway? It was pure bliss from A to Z!
Joel & Katrina were cute together, they were swoon worthy and I thoroughly enjoyed every single minute reading about them! I am on cloud nine.

« Every girl wants to be the one that changes your mind and captures your heart–the one that makes you want more. »

Joel is a basketball player or just a player for that matter! He doesn’t hide the fact he doesn’t do relationship and just enjoy himself while he can.

Katrina is a single mother who’s sole purpose is to succeed balancing college and her three years old child.

When these two meet, it’s not a match but patience and understanding might give them a chance.

I’ve always loved seeing a playboy fall for a girl who resist him. Throw in the mix a cure child and I’m a goner. The Fadeaway just hit all the right spot at the right time. The book was as delicious as a candy and left me with a smile on my face.

I can’t wait for Zeke and Gabby’s story! The mysterious guy and the lovely girl. Bring it on!

Calling lovers of NA sport romances! I don’t know where I have been but I’m loving this world. What I love most is the unique plot line. This one has a single mom, but it doesn’t take the traditional plot line i was expecting. So good!

Another great narrating duo!

The Fadeaway is the second book in this series (it could be read as a stand alone) and it was so good that I am already looking forward to reading the next.

I enjoyed to read about Joel and Katrina journey, from his Thursdays request to going out on a date, to her accepting his offer.
I thought Joel was an irrecoverable player,he likes girls and one night stands, but I changed my mind, there's so much more going on with him you cannot not to fall for him.

I love basketball and I think that there are still so few books about this sport so be sure to keep an eye on this author and this amazing series.

3.5 stars! I enjoyed this book more than I expected to. I've been wavering on what to rate this book,
because some parts of the story are much better than others.

This is a story about a very unlikely matchup between Katrina and Joel. Katrina is a single mom and student, and as near a virgin as you can get. Joel is a star basketball player, rich kid, biggest manwhore possible, and I think he attends a class or two, maybe. Joel sees Katrina at her coffee shop job, and it's extreme lust at first sight. Katrina is unlike ALL the other girls though... she doesn't jump on the chance to ride his dick immediately. This fact BLOWS JOEL AWAY. He is extremely confused by why Katrina could possibly deny him access to her vagina. It is legit a HUGE mystery to him. So of course, he becomes obsessed with her, and starts to visit her at her job each week to repeatedly ask her out. And since we need a storyline, she eventually relents and starts spending time with him.

TBH, I'm not usually a fan of single parent tropes, but this one was pretty sweet once it got going. Joel was very understanding of Katrina's situation and worked around her restraints. He was great with Christian (her son), and they had several sweet "family" moments. Unfortunately, a lot of his actions were often bordering on unbelievable behavior for his character (the 22 y/o hot college athlete). He didn't understand the severity of his decisions for nearly the entire book, and walked away when feelings started to become too real. He does eventually come around... but I literally had to go back and reread to remember if he ever said ILY to Katrina. SPOILER: He did, once. Seriously, the ending was stunted and it badly needed an epilogue.

Safe; Hero was a big manwhore; heroine only had sex ONE TIME and it led to her pregnancy. Can we just briefly have a moment of silence for the hypocrisy here? .......... YEP, IT'S BS. Hero was cheated on by his ex. He stays faithful to the heroine after they get together.

I play my best ball on the outside--long shots, jumpers, and fadeaways--that's my clutch move. I'm real good at the fadeaway. The best. On the court and off. You can't guard someone who shoots and moves backward. You just can't. I've staked my future and my personal life on that one move. --Joel Moreno

After reading about Bless (Blair and Wes) in THE ASSIST, I was excited to read about how Joel, the cocky and gorgeous-as-hell playboy, meets his match in Katrina, a single mother struggling to balance her family life with her college life, and this novel did not disappoint!! I think I loved this one even more than the first novel as both characters really surprised me in the depth and complexities of their past, especially Joel. We get to see why he behaves the way he does--living life in the moment and never settling down--and the reason was not something I was expecting. He is so much more than the cocksure playboy athlete that he leads everyone to believe he is, and I absolutely LOVED him!

Moreover, seeing how he is able to bring Katrina out of her shell and how he interacts and comes to care for Christian was amazing. Their courtship was so swoony, and I couldn't help myself from rooting for them the entire time. I was happily surprised that there was no OW/scorned lover drama from Joel's past that randomly popped up as I feel like that trope is way overused. I am so stoked for the next book where we get Zeke and Gabby's story because Zeke has been such a HUGE mystery and I can't wait for him and Gabby to unwrap each other (both physically and emotionally)! I'd recommend this novel to readers who are looking for a great contemporary sports read with unique characters and a feel-good storyline.
