Thank you!
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the 2019 IISE Annual Conference Service Project in Orlando.

We will be working with two organizations this year, due to great interest in volunteering from previous conferences. Read about our past projects here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/recap-2018-iise-volunteer-event-orlando-habitat-humanity-brion-hurley/

#1 Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando (https://habitatorlandoosceola.org/)

Habitat Orlando & Osceola is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Because of the nature of what HFH does (constructing homes), it is nearly impossible for us to know what tasks our group will be doing on the build day; we will be completing tasks associated with homebuilding: painting, hammering, caulking, etc. We will perform tasks like painting, landscaping, and caulking, so everyone must wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty and possibly painted. T-shirts or tank tops are fine, and please wear long pants or shorts of modest length.  Closed-toe shoes are required (boots and sneakers are acceptable, but no high heels, clogs, Crocs, or dress shoes).

#2 Rise Against Hunger (https://www.riseagainsthunger.org/)

Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable, mobilizing the necessary resources to end hunger by 2030. We will help with setting up a meal packing event, and look at the process of packing the meals into a bag, and packing the bags into a box and preparing for shipping. Closed toed athletic shoes and pants are required, and you may be asked to wear a hair or beard net, as we are dealing with food.

Plan to travel on Friday into Orlando (if you are flying), so you can be there for the event on Saturday May 18th, 2019. The event will run from 9am-Noon. We will ask you to arrive at 8am on Saturday in the lobby of the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort (location of the conference). We will return to the hotel by 1pm.

More details to come as we get closer to the dates.

We are looking for about 24 people who are interested in skills-based industrial and systems engineering and process improvement volunteering focused around construction or meal kit preparation.

By signing up below, you are expressing interest in this project, and will be kept in communication as we finalize details. If you decide you cannot attend, simply let us know by May 16th.
