Introduction

Veterinary Prescriber supports veterinary professionals with independent, evidence-based reference and learning information on all aspects of veterinary medicines, from newly marketed medicines to regulatory updates.

We do this to provide a trustworthy and impartial resource that helps veterinary professionals keep up to date, and use medicines in the best interest of animals, their owners and the environment. We want animals to receive treatment that is chosen on the basis of the strength of the evidence not the weight of promotion. We do this by providing:

  • Independent reviews of medicines and practical use of medicines topics. These are presented in the form of multimedia CPD modules. We know that veterinary professionals are busy and time-pressured, so we make the modules succinct and easy to follow. We include a short test at the end of each module, so you can test your understanding of each topic. The content is available in audio format, and can be downloaded and listened to as a podcast if you prefer.

  • Monthly Medicines News to make it easy to keep up to date. It highlights new products, changes to product information, new adverse effects and reclassifications together with commentary on the practical implications of the changes. Also includes a critical appraisal of promotional claims in ADVET - what the adverts say and what they’re not telling you!

  • Unique product guides. The companion animal Parasiticide Guide and Specials Database make sense of confusing product areas and help you find the right treatments.

  • A professional medicines information service. Whether you have a general or patient-specific question, we can help with a systematic information search and evaluation.

Who is it for?

We are here to help anyone involved in prescribing, dispensing, handling, making decisions or communicating about, veterinary medicines.

  • Veterinary surgeons. Because keeping up-to-date on medicines is as much of a professional necessity as is keeping your surgical techniques up to scratch.

  • Veterinary nurses. Develop your knowledge and understanding of medicines. An essential resource if you are involved in dispensing medicines.

  • Clinical boards. You will want to base your decisions on more than what pharmaceutical companies tell you about their products. Veterinary Prescriber will save you time and effort in making rational decisions.

  • Veterinary practices. Ensure everyone in the practice is handling medicines legally and safely through our Medicines Certificates. Effectively prepare for an RCVS PSS assessment or VMD inspection.

  • Suitably Qualified Persons/Regulated Animal Medicine Advisors. An independent CPD resource to help you keep up to date on medicines.

  • Pharmacists. Get to grips with veterinary medicines and veterinary medicines regulation.

This is the most useful resource I’ve found for both information and critical evaluation of everyday practice
— Hazel Bentall, Veterinary surgeon

So refreshing to have an unbiased view on veterinary medicines. Your modules and resources really help me to understand the marketing behind medicines and ask myself the right questions when it comes to medicines
— Jo Brett, RVN

I find the Veterinary Prescriber very useful with the topics you cover especially with the Veterinary Practice Standards in mind. The modules are clear & easy to follow. The links included are useful for more information. The short test at the end ensures that there is understanding of the module. It is also very useful to have the online ‘chat’ facility.
— Veterinary Nurse
Vet Prescriber,....is an amazing organisation! [It] aims to dispel myths, and provide unbiased information about the pharmaceuticals we all use
