May 2024 Release: Check out the features now available in Sandbox

Spring is on its way and so are a bunch of new features that you’ll see in our next major release in May 2024. To prepare, you can now find some of these features in your Sandbox. Learning Plan improvements are the highlight of this round and there are several new improvements that give admins more power and improve experience so check out all that’s blooming in your platform!

Learn LMS

Learning Plans porting

All of the Learning Plan updates coming to you in this release cycle are made possible by the migration to a new and improved architecture in the background services of the Learn platform. Now that the architecture is in place, all of the learning plans will need to be moved (or ported) to this new area. The good news is that this is all happening in the background and there is no action or changes to the Administrator or Learner experience. Just know that Learning Plan functionality has a new more powerful and robust engine

Additional fields for Learning Plans

We’ve heard that you really enjoy custom additional fields on your courses and now you can have them on your learning plans too! With this enhancement you will be able to create additional fields to better organize and manage all your learning plans with information that is relevant to your organization’s processes and nomenclature.

Enhanced completion rules for Learning Plans

Have you always wanted a learning plan with optional content? With this new feature you can designate courses inside your learning plan as “required” or “optional”. This gives you the flexibility to decide which content counts towards the completion criteria of your plan, putting you in control of your learning journey.

New course player - playlist support

We're bringing back the playlist feature to the new course player layout! Now you can create your own custom list of must-watch items, just like on YouTube. Easily navigate through your saved content while in the course player and enjoy a seamless learning experience!

Question category dropdown menu improvement

Say goodbye to endless scrolling through hundreds of question categories. With our latest feature, Administrators can now easily associate question categories to test questions hassle-free. Simply search, sort, and select your desired category making organizing questions a breeze!

Security / DPA / Privacy - Security information contacts in LMS Advanced Settings

By integrating extra designated contact fields into the platform, we enhance communication and ensure adherence to legal standards, particularly in Europe. These additional fields link to our internal security contact system, empowering our teams to notify you swiftly. This enables prompt and effective responses, bolstering our collective data protection endeavors.

OpenID Connect - UserInfo endpoint

We're enhancing our login architecture to meet the specific needs of some customers and making it available to all our customers! This feature enables seamless integration with Webex through the OpenID Connect protocol, ensuring users can be provisioned in Docebo using their emails as usernames. With this adaptation, we're not only meeting security requirements but also unlocking the potential for a smoother login experience for everyone.

Automatic Skill Assignment

Not that long ago, really just in February, we released the AI Control Panel with configuration panels for Auto Tagging and the Recommendation Engine. In this Sandbox release, you will now also see the configuration panel for Automatic Skill Assignment, which automatically  assigns skills to published courses and/or assets based on the skills platform catalog.

Single Background Jobs List

We now have a single dashboard that shows all the background jobs on your platform. From there, you can filter jobs and easily check their progress and, if needed, perform actions such as  fast-track or interrupt a job.

That’s a wrap!

We hope you enjoy testing out these new features in your Sandbox and, as always, drop in any comments you have below.

I really like that the LP feature looks/behaves like the Course Management area. That’s a great development. Here’s to all of the “old fashioned” areas catching up to the rest of the platform.

finally! we’re getting there...not all we need but it’s a start. thank you.

SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS!

@Jay.Kolbenson The new LP area is great and stoked to use it, especially for some of the requests that have been coming into my team....but I keep getting an error trying to add courses… The enrollment functionality also hangs.

This looks very promising!!!

I recall when it came to days of validity that there was an unsatisfactory relationship between notifications and Learning Plan assignments and that forced the DOV to be set at the course level vs the Learning Plan level.

Will learning Plans with DOV just send one notification of LP assignment or will that trigger the course assignment notifications as well for courses linked to course enrollment event notification?

Curious about the following learning plan requests--can you share more on if these features will be incorporated?

  1. Soft Deadlines: This idea has 200+ upvotes. Hard deadlines lock out learners from the learning plan, which makes it unusable for use
  2. User Has Yet To complete learning plan” notification: Because of the above, we can’t use learning plan deadlines. Adding this notification would allow us to create learner and manager notifications when a learning plan is overdue (based on enrollment date)
  3. Will Learning plans be visible in channels if folks aren’t enrolled?
  4. Will pre-requisites assigned within a learning plan carry over in the course properties outside of the learning plan? (e.g. if certain roles are assigned LP1 with course A, course B to be taken in sequential order, will other roles be locked out of Course B, even if they aren’t enrolled in that course?

The preview as learner button is very helpful in the course management section. I was hoping to see that feature in the new Learning Plan section but unfortunately I don’t see it.

I too am really excited about the new Learning Plan dashboard and mirror the comments above.  I do however have a couple of questions:

  1. From the user perspective - I do not see how they will be able to tell if a course is mandatory or optional?
  2. Also, from the user perspective - if I add an additional field - where does this show?

Thank you - looks great so far!

NEED -  LP soft deadlines.

WOULD LIKE - Single LP report with LP and course status.

Fingers crossed.

Also I thought my interface was broken until I remembered my  CSS hack to remove extra search tabs before the global search update using  “.dcb-ui-tabs-horizontal-header-item:nth-child(X)”

This was hiding three out of 5 tabs from the Learning plan UI 🙄

I don’t have a sandbox, but given what I have read here and your feedback already, I am very excited hanging out for a long time for the Learning Plan improvements.

Getting an error too!

Would the LP validity periods be editable now through the API? We really need to be able to update the end of validity period for specific users through the API.

Loving the new Learning Plan interface, definitely a long time coming and a GREAT upgrade!

Saw this mentioned already in the comments several times and it’s an idea with lots of votes in the community but want to mention it again as it’s super important for our use cases…

One really important missing feature:

SOFT DEADLINES FOR LEARNING PLANS: We really struggle not having deadlines we can add to learning plans that don’t restrict access to the course (validity dates) if people don’t complete in the allotted time or want to revisit in the future.

RECOMMENDATION: Just copy the soft deadline feature from Course’s to Learning Plans.

Thanks!

Yes, this would be most helpful, otherwise how will the user know if it is not explicitly written (and read) in the description?

Additionally, it would be really great to see some kind of section/grouping logic, for example, the user must complete 1 of these 2 courses to complete the section or learning plan or user must complete 3 of 5 courses, etc.

I’m loving this new interface!

Jump to course and then back is amazing.

I am also getting an error message when trying to add a course, same as @Jason Kocur and @KaterinaT  My use case is adding a course to an existing learning plan.

@Jay.Kolbenson Is this a bug or are we doing something wrong?

I love that we can now assign learning plans to catalogs and channels from within learning plan management! Dealing with the catalog area is another pain point (no search!).

What would be really cool is if we had a mass action to add multiple learning plans to catalog(s) and channel(s). One channel/catalog at a time would be good, the option for Mutiple learning plans into multiple catalogs would be great!

Did I mention I love mass actions. 😍

I agree with @gordon.cooke
LP with course status is a real challenge. We can get the status from reports, but with a 4-hour delay the data isn’t always accurate. Plus, you have to run a separate report for each learning plan because LP is a filter but not a field in the report.

Plus, when troubleshooting for a single user there is no way in the UI to easy see a given users course status within a learning plan. You can see % complete but not which courses are complete and which are not. Granted you can look at the user’s personal summary, but the courses are in one long list, hard to identify the ones in the learning plan you are looking at.

This is great! What I really need though is soft deadlines for LPs. Without it, LP use is pretty dead in the water.

Very excited about having this update!

@Jay.Kolbenson  - Any chance we will be able to organize courses into folders or add pages for directly to the learning plan?

Thank you for the update! We’ve noticed one bug for our Power Users that only have the “view” permission for learning plans. These users can still see the columns “Prerequisites” and “Mandatory” under the tab “courses.”

  • The Power Users can click on “Prerequisites”, but nothing happens
  • The Power Users can click on “Mandatory”, but they are then forwarded to a 403 page.

Basically the permission is respected, but there are two UX issues there. Knowing our Power Users, we would received quite a few support tickets for this. 😉

Docebo - is there a plan to ensure that learners can tell the difference between mandatory and optional courses within the learning plan?  Looking at the learner view right now in Sandbox - that does not seem possible.  Also, will the completion criteria that appears to the learner show optional vs mandatory requirements for completion?  This enhancement is great, but without these details, it is not helpful to the learner.

AMEN to this one!

An easy workaround is to put “(optional)” in the title of the optional courses. But that has significant impact to reuse. If the course is “required” in one learning plan and “optional” in another you can no longer share the course. Then we end up with duplicate courses, more maintenance, and reporting issues.

Exactly.  While that is a great workaround, we have several courses that are required in one plan, but not another.  I am hoping that the developers at Docebo see this post and can address this before the feature is released.

Lots of interesting stuff. I like what I see in the sandbox.

Hello,

Is there a plan to add the option to “Duplicate” a learning plan, like we have the option to do for courses?

We come across situations where we add a new course to a plan, and because we do not want to reset the progress for those who were marked as “complete” we often have to create a whole new learning plan, just to add 1 course. The Duplicate option would make a HUGE difference.

OR, perhaps a way to add a course to the plan and it not affect those users who were “completed” prior to the addition.

Thanks

Talya
