Program Description
Scripps Off-Campus Referral Program is designed to help currently enrolled Scripps students have timely access to mental health services during the academic year. The program expands the pool of available mental health professionals in Claremont to help students connect with a counselor who meets their specific needs. For the fall semester, students may work with a counselor in their geographical area, even if the therapist is outside of California. Please note that this program is not designed for students requiring immediate medical attention. If you need immediate help, please contact Campus Safety (909-607-2000) or contact your local emergency resources.

Referral Process
In order to participate in the OCTR, you must complete and submit the referral below. Once submitted, you will receive a letter within 24 hours that can be shared with your provider during your first appointment. The letter informs the provider of your status as a Scripps College student, as well as the terms and conditions for any supplemental payment by Scripps, should your insurance not cover the entire cost of treatment. As a participant in the OCTR, you will also need to meet with Jamila Zuwayed, who will help connect you with a provider that meets your needs.

If you do not hear form the Dean of Students Office within two business days of submitting the referral, please contact Jamila Zuwayed: jzuwayed@scrippscollege.edu.

Program Stipulations

Any currently enrolled and matriculating Scripps student may seek an off campus referral for any reason. However, the College hopes to limit financial assistance to those students who have a demonstrated financial need. Students who do not have demonstrated financial need, but present other compelling reasons (such as privacy concerns) may also request financial assistance. The College will cover co-pays of up to $75 per session for 8 sessions in total. Requests for additional sessions must be made in writing to Jamila Zuwayed and will be considered on a case by case basis.
