The KU Care Team administers emergency funds for Kutztown University students who have experienced an emergency or financial crisis that affects their ability to be a successful student. This provides an opportunity to support students who are experiencing an unforeseen, temporary financial crisis due to accidents, illness, death of a family member, fire, and other unplanned circumstances. There will be no expectation of repayment; students may choose to donate back to the fund when they find themselves to be more financially stable. All requests are considered on a case-by-case basis. Applications must list a specific expense(s) (e.g., food, rent, etc.) for which the emergency funds are being requested. Please provide as much detail as possible to aid the KU Care Team in reviewing your application.
NOTE: COVID-relief funding has been depleted and is no longer available.
Examples of Covered Expenses:
- Food or gas
- Rent, utilities, and other essential household expenses
- Safety (changing locks due to criminal concern)
- Medication/medical issues related to appointments (not medical bills)
- Essential belongings (when lost due to a disaster or crime)
- Transportation expenses directly related to a student’s attendance at the university
- Educational supplies
- Other expenses, considered on a case by case basis.
Expenses Not Typically Covered:
- Tuition and expenses related to the semester bill
- Medical bills
- Credit card bills
- Bail, fines or tickets
- Non-essential items
Eligibility:
- Students must be currently enrolled and in good standing at Kutztown University or, if during a break, enrolled for the following semester.
- Students must provide evidence of a financial emergency, defined as an unplanned or unexpected event urgently requiring immediate action.
- All other possible resources must have been explored and applied for, and are either insufficient, unavailable, or not available in a timely manner. NOTE: Emergency funding cannot be used to take the place of financial aid that a student can access and will not be considered until all possible financial aid is applied. This includes grants, scholarships, and loans.
- Funding is generally limited to once per year per student for KU emergency funds.
