All eyes are on the spread of the COVID-19 virus. During this global crisis, we want to ensure the most vulnerable communities we’ve pledged to serve continue to receive the malaria prevention and treatment tools they need.

Outbreaks like COVID-19 threaten the world's most vulnerable communities, including refugee families and the first line of defense against malaria - healthcare workers.

Healthcare workers on the frontlines of malaria elimination are vital in the fight against outbreaks like COVID-19. They are key players in reducing the strain on health systems.

This World Malaria Day, your gift will help provide frontline healthcare workers with the tools they need to prevent, diagnose and treat malaria for thousands of refugees in DRC. Additionally, your gift will support the creation of revised guidelines for healthcare workers on the frontlines, helping them adapt their approach to malaria control during emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Together we can raise $100,000 and unlock another $100,000 in matching funds, doubling your impact for families in need.

#StepUpTheFight and safeguard the health of families at risk.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), malaria is the main cause of disease transmission and death.

Refugee families, especially pregnant women and children, are at risk.

Nearly 600,000 refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) live in the DRC, having fled their homes due to violence and conflict.

Refugees are particularly vulnerable to malaria, as travel and lack of accessible health care can compromise immunity.

In the DRC, malaria accounts for more 19% of deaths among children under five.

Worldwide, a child still dies from malaria every two minutes. These deaths are preventable.

After fleeing war in the Central African Republic, Jacqueline's lived at the Inke refugee camp in the northern part of the DRC for the past six and a half years. When she and her family first arrived at the camp, Jacqueline's three year old daughter was sick with malaria. She received treatment at the camp's health center and made a full recovery.

Malaria is entirely preventable and treatable, yet many refugees, pregnant women, and children throughout sub-Saharan Africa - especially those in conflict areas - still die of this disease due to lack of access to lifesaving prevention and treatment tools.

Simple, affordable solutions like bed nets can protect a child from malaria and in some cases, even save a life. Just $10 is enough to send two bed nets to refugee families in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

In addition to bed nets, malaria testing and treatment are critical tool in the fight against malaria. That's why we've committed to helping our UN partner in the DRC secure thousands of bed nets, malaria tests, and malaria treatments to refugee families residing in four camps on the border with the Central African Republic (CAR).

We want to raise $100,000 to provide as many prevention and treatment tools as possible. And in honor of World Malaria Day, your gift will be matched today through April 25. That means your gift will make twice the impact for families most in need.

Rosie left her home in the Central African Republic due to war in the region, and has spent the past six years living in the Inke refugee camp in the DRC. Since arriving to the camp, Rosie has given birth to two children, and is 6 and a half months pregnant. Upon having her first child at the camp she went to the camp’s health center, whose prenatal care includes malaria diagnosis and prevention measures such as bed net distribution.
“When I arrived at the health center,” Rosie recalls, “I was tested for malaria and then given medicine to protect myself and my child from malaria.” She received a mosquito net and said it's been a source of relief, stating, “I can now spend my night sleeping under the net, protected against mosquito bites".

1. Double your gift for World Malaria Day

#StepUpTheFight for World Malaria Day and protect families at risk in the DRC by providing lifesaving bed nets and malaria testing & treatment tools.

In honor of World Malaria Day, all gifts received from April 14-25 will be matched! That means you can protect twice as many refugees from malaria - don't miss this chance to DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT!

2. Start your own World Malaria Day Fundraiser

Create Your World Malaria Day Facebook Fundraiser

Facebook is an easy and fun way to raise money and awareness! We've created a step-by-step guide to help you utilize your network and reach your fundraising goal:

1. Starting out: Go to your News Feed landing page. Click the "Fundraisers" button on the left menu of your Explore list.

2. Select Nothing But Nets: Once you've clicked on "Fundraisers," Facebook will present you with two options to either raise money for a nonprofit and charity or an individual friend. Click on the first option and select Nothing But Nets!

3. Personalize and Create: Choose a cover photo and fill in the fundraiser details. A template and examples for Nothing But Nets will appear once you've selected us. While the Nothing But Nets language is a helpful guide, we want to make sure YOU are making it YOUR own fundraiser. So add your story, why you chose Nothing But Nets, and click create!

4. Share: Once you create a Facebook fundraiser, make sure you share it consistently. Friends will automatically get a notification for birthdays, but you can increase exposure by asking friends to also share your fundraiser or making it part of a new profile picture. Remember, the first 24 hours of a Facebook fundraiser are the most important, so the more exposure during this time period the better. **Don't forget to remind your friends and family that all gifts made from April 14-25, 2020 will be matched!**

Build Your Personal World Malaria Day Fundraising Page

You can also create your own personal fundraising page through our Nothing But Nets website! Create your own fundraising campaign here. Follow the five easy steps below to set yourself up for success:

1. Make a donation to your own page. People are more likely to donate when they see that someone else has already contributed.

2. Set a time frame and a fundraising goal. Decide how long your fundraiser will run (we recommend 2-4 weeks) and how much money you want to raise. Setting a time frame creates a sense of urgency and people are more likely to give when they know they are helping you reach a goal.

3. Make it personal! Add pictures and videos to the page and tell potential donors why you support Nothing But Nets. Remember, donors will be interested in our cause but they are primarily interested in you. Check out our Nothing But Nets Media Kit for photos and logos and here's some sample language to get you started:

In honor of World Malaria Day on April 25, I joined a global grassroots movement to fight malaria. I'm going to #StepUpTheFight and help provide refugee families in the DRC with lifesaving bed nets and malaria testing & treatment tools.

4. Share with your inner circle first. Before posting on social media, send out your fundraising page to your inner circle of friends and family. Let them know why you are supporting Nothing But Nets and encourage them to make a donation - even if it's $10! After this, share the page with your broader circle or friends, classmates, and co-workers.

5. Make Multiple Touch Points. People receive SO many emails so don't be frustrated if your first email doesn't lead to a donation. Continue to email your network sharing the graphics below, updating them on your progress, and letting them know when you are close to your fundraising goal. **Don't forget to remind your friends and family that all gifts made from April 14-25, 2020 will be matched!**

3. Get Social

This year, we want to raise $100,000 to send enough bed nets and malaria testing & treatment tools to as many families in the DRC as possible. It's a big goal but if we meet it, a generous donor will match all gifts received! That means together, we can protect even more families at risk from malaria.

#StepUpTheFight this World Malaria Day and invite your friends to join the movement! Together, we can end malaria in our lifetime.
