Bio & CV

Chy Sprauve (Chy/she/they) is a scholar in Composition-Rhetoric who studies mid-20th century Black literacy movements in the Southern United States. Chy is an Assistant Professor of Black, Race and Ethnic Studies in the English department at Queensborough Community College, CUNY.

I earned a Ph.D in Composition-Rhetoric (2022) in the Department of English at CUNY Graduate Center, where I also received an M.Phil in the same field. I also hold an M.A. in Africana Studies and a B.A. (Hons.) in English from the State University of New York at Albany. My areas of specialization are Composition-Rhetoric and Writing Studies, Critical Pedagogy, and African American Studies.

I write more informally about student-focused pedagogy (and other things, like navigating grad school) on my blog. Finally—and perhaps most importantly—I think you’ll find my pup Sunday (who was essential to the dissertation-completion process) to be super-cute.
