About this Session

The NYPD Psychological Assessment Section (PAS) conducts clinical and forensic (pre-employment) interviews in order to determine the psychological suitability for prospective Police Officer and Cadet applicants. We achieve this by utilizing and integrating psychometric data, biodemographic data, and structured clinical interview. It is a niche field of psychology that is both fun, interesting, and challenging.

PAS has current vacancies available for entry-level psychologists (Psychologist Level I). This is a great opportunity to gain experience in the niche field of pre-employment suitability assessments for law enforcement. This position is entry-level, with doctoral degree required (we can still hire if ABD) and since we are an exempt setting, no license or limited permit is required.

Possession of a license to practice psychology in NY comes with an additional payment differential. The position is a NYC job, so the psychologist would receive great NYC benefits including pension eligibility, union representation, loan forgiveness, and paid time off. The hours are typically 8a-4p, M-F, in-person at our offices in Manhattan. No remote options are available although this might be a possibility in the near future.

Speaker: Benjamin Appel, Psy.D., Deputy Director of the Psychological Assessment, New York City Police Department
