The world’s sexiest firefighter is about to get a second chance with the virgin next door…

He’s bossy, arrogant, and so ridiculously hot he should come with a warning label and a pair of flame retardant coveralls.

He’s also the boy who broke my heart when we were in high school.

I want to move in next door to Ryan O’Dell the way I want to be the virgin gamer geek suddenly in charge of running my sister’s sex toy factory. Too bad both are written in my stars.

Yeah, I’m the world’s oldest virgin code-writing nerd.

And he’s the world’s hottest firefighter.

And even though he intimidates the heck out of me, I can’t seem to control my libido when he’s around.

Where is my dignity? My self-respect? My panties?

Seriously…. Have you seen them? Anyone?

Maybe they’re hiding in his bedroom. With my heart.

Yeah, I know. I’m hosed.

So hosed.

Hosed is a steamy, fun romantic comedy between a firefighter and the virgin nerd next door, complete with a pet raccoon, scandalous gossip, and dildo football. (No, really.) This romance has no cheating or cliffhangers, and ends with a banging hot happily ever after.

Hosed is a sexy, sweet, fun, quirky, did I say sexy, rom-com by Pippa Grant and Lili Valente. I have read several of Pippa’s books and love them but this is my very first involving Lili Valente. If this is any example of what I’m in store for, there will definitely be more!

Cassie Sunderwell is, in her own words, the world’s oldest virgin code-writing nerd. She grew up in Happy Cat, Georgia with her sister, Savannah and her parents but now she lives in San Francisco doing a job she loves, writing code for apps. In high school she had a huge crush on the hottest guy in school, Ryan O’Dell. Without ever knowing how she felt, Ryan broke her heart. It’s been nine years since then. She’d like to think she was all over it. Well, maybe not!

Cassie’s sister was running her dream company, Sunshine Sex Toys factory, which was, of course, right next to the town post office/taxidermy shop in Happy Cat, when she more or less went off the deep end which resulted from a terrible divorce. Savannah left the country on an extended trip leaving her sister in charge of her company. So yes, Cassie is back in Happy Cat, staying in her sister’s house, which happens to be right across the street from the boy, now very hot firefighter, Ryan.

hot fireman

Ryan has lived in Happy Cat all his life. He lives with his pet raccoon, George Cooney. Ryan is the kind of guy who tries to take care of everyone, especially his three younger brothers, who I hope, hope, hope we might get to know better in future books! An emergency at the Sunshine Factory puts Ryan face to face with his new neighbor. He can’t believe she’s back! One look into her eyes and he’s lost.

“Some risks are worth taking and Cassie is worth this roll of the dice and so much more.”

raccoon

Cassie and Ryan begin getting to know each other and their chemistry is immediately obvious to the both of them. Once they work out Cassie’s high school memories, they begin seeing each other. These two were so darn cute together. Ryan was so smitten with her and so patient. I couldn’t help but to fall in love with him a bit myself. At the same time, though, things are going wrong at the Sunshine Sex Toy Factory. Not everyone in town is thrilled to have a sex toy factory in their midst. Is someone sabotaging them? Evidence seems to point to Cassie and her sister and there are plenty in town that are quick to think the worst.

“He could break me. So easily. But, he also makes me whole.”

“I just want to be here, with him, this man who feels like home.”

Cassie is trying so hard to save her sister’s business while she is away. At the same time, she is falling in love. Both she and Ryan feel like they have found that puzzle piece they never even knew was missing.

finding missing puzzle piece love

This was so much fun. These two were adorable. Cassie’s safe, quiet life trying to not be seen in San Francisco is turned upside down in Happy Cat. The residents of this quirky little town are hilarious and adorable. This is one of those books that once you start reading, you don’t want to put it down. While I was reading, I realized I was smiling. How could I not? I definitely plan to look into Lili Valente’s work now. I don’t know if they plan on doing more books in Happy Cat, but I sure hope so. My fingers and toes are crossed that we get to know Ryan’s brothers better in future books.

Co-author's note, Release Day!!
AAAHHH!!! It's here! I'm SO excited for this fun, sweet, sexy hot romantic comedy to be out in the world spreading joy! And terrible ideas about getting pet raccoons. And awful Christmas decoration suggestions. And new games for teenagers to play.

Or maybe not that last one.

But HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY, HOSED!!

Co-author's note, 4 days before release:
OMG OMG OMG! It's almost here!! Ryan and Cassie and the Happy Cat crew and the factory and the raccoon... I love the raccoon. I WANT A RACCOON!!!

Co-author's note, 1.5 weeks before release:
Listened to the audio files of Hosed, narrated by Jacob Morgan and Virginia Rose, and *swoon*. Gah, I'm so excited for release day!!

Co-author's note, 4 weeks before release:
Heroes who know how to use their firehoses and have pet raccoons are the best kind of heroes. Not that I'm biased. But I might be a little biased. But for good reason.

See my notes and quote. This is one of those books that you read when you want something light and funny. Not a whole lot of brain or heart involved. I wish it was free like some of this author's other books. I might not download them in a rush to read - it's not the type of writing style or book that sinks its claws into me. Only intense passion, love, suspense, mystery, etc. can do that to me.

This was not that.

The story is simple: small town hot firefighter meets the geeky girl he always liked from HS, who's back in town to help run her sister's sex toy factory while said sister is escaping her messed up life somewhere else.

That's it folks. End of plot.
Not a whole lot of emotional baggage for either of the MCs. Their childhood issue was easily resolved.

Yes, there's a little on who set the fires to the sex toy shop, and toward the end the H does something stupid, is pretty quickly forgiven, after pretty quickly groveling for forgiveness. Not a whole lot of angst here, for which I am thankful. I like angst (when it relates to intense passion and love, etc.) but not for the hell of it.

BTW, can I just say - firefighters are HOTT. Way hotter than policemen! Met a few up close and personal the other week. The young ones wouldn't know gentlemanly manners to save their life but they were cute (in an assholish kind of way). The seasoned one tho... hubba hubba! tanned, veins in the arms, steely gray hair... bet he knew his way around the bedroom... I did check out the left hand, didn't see a ring (not that one would wear the ring on the job, would one?) That definitely helped me like this book.

description

So the whole book is a long-winded exchange of funny sound bites. Like the over-weight raccoon named George Cooney who likes to steal sex toys and wrap himself up in anal beads (which the h mistook for Xmas lights that didn't have a plug)

description

I skipped over a lot of the sound bites, bc sometimes it got old. In my view, everything is sharpened when it comes in contrasts - bitter and sweet, funny and sad, love and hate. When a whole book is one long string of quips and silliness, I get a silly and sugar overload headache.

So, I'd say 3.5 stars, rounded to 4 for the originality of the raccoon and anal beads.

You can't go wrong with a crazy pet raccoon, a hot fireman, a woman who manages a sex toy factory and a weirdo freak bad guy that likes sheep WAY too much!

I really enjoyed this faced paced, laugh out loud small town romance. A great read when you need something light and a little sweet. Some of the funny scenes were a little over the top and unrealistic but still had me laughing my ass off!

I loved George Cooney's bonus epilogue at the end.

3.5 George Cooney stars!

You know a book that starts with the sentence “a small-town firefighter unaware that a dildo is about to change his life” is going to be a fun story ;)

This was a quirky story about a small town, a firefighter, a video game programmer, a sex toy factory and a pet raccoon, named George Cooney. Really, the raccoon stole the show in every scene he was in. I even submitted to get the bonus epilogue for a funny chapter from his point of view.

I don’t really have much to say, there was no OTT drama, a bit of a mystery, small town clichés, and some romance. I did enjoy the story; it was a great, funny, quick read. My only negative about the book was that the writing felt a bit rushed.

I am very curious as to what happened between Jace & Olivia so I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Fun sweet light reading. I like this book very much. The sex toy is a fun aspect of the story. The hero is such a sweet sweet man. The heroine is free spirited. I just wish there is more steam on the steamy department.

George deserves a book of his own. Overal this is a fun read.

And I expected so much from this book...

Ok, all I can say is that this was a big disappointment.
The blurb sounded awesome, the reviews confirmed how great this read is, so my expectations were really high!

I guess this is what happens when you have great expectations: the chances are you'll be disappointed.

This book was BORING! It was flat, all of it. Yeah, the characters has a teeny, tiny bit of chemistry, but that was it. Both the H and the h were flat, the writing style was pretty static (I've read this author before and she can do a lot better), and well, for a nerd, she was boring.

I love nerds. I love hot guys (he's even a fireman!). Yet this book was a no from my side. Again. I just don't seem to have any luck with romance books lately.

Nope

It was really funny, which I liked. It was a little too ridiculous at times. I was mostly enjoying the story until Ryan said he'd had his share of great nights with great women (not exact wording but pretty close). Was that necessary? Could he not have been more discriminate with past partners, especially since he lives in a small town? Or, maybe he shouldn't have had any past partners at all. She didn't. It is almost always like this in books these days. The men have experience, and the women don't. I don't care that the women don't. I care that it's so unbalanced. Men be promiscuous but women can't be? I honestly think promiscuity is gross, no matter who does it, but it's hypocritical for men to get all possessive of their HEA woman and glad she's a virgin when he isn't. So, while I liked the town and quirkiness, it went too far, and overall, it's just another book in the overdone, old, tired category of virgin/manwhore books. Don't bother.

What do you get when you take a shy video game programmer, one super duper hot fireman and a pet racoon that goes by the name George Clooney ---- Lots of fun and quirkiness. Golly, I giggled. This was adorable and just what I needed as a little palate refresher after so many dark reads.

Cassie returns home to Happy Cat to help her sister out. She takes over the reigns of her sister's company. She's soooo far out of her comfort zone there though. She has no clue how to run a adult toy factory. One that is the talk of the town. It's on everyone's radar.

It seems like it's one mishap after another for her and the company. Many in the town want it shut down. So you've got a touch of a mystery who done it thrown in with all the sexy comedy.

There wasn't really any drama or angst. Just pure entertainment!

What do you get when you cross a scene stealing raccoon, a hot and sexy firefighter, a geeky and smart and beautiful virgin, a sex toy factory and small town, sometimes small-minded people? Shenanigans, wild and crazy shenanigans.

Such wild and crazy shenanigans that you find yourself grinning like a fool, laughing aloud at the outrageous of some of the hilarious situations Cassie and Ryan find themselves in. Seriously, I need those rules for dildo football STAT. And someone make a book with all the texts between Cassie and her sister ASAP.

Hosed is by far the funniest book I have read this year—yeah, it’s early, but the bar is set very high to surpass my enjoyment. ~ Missy, 5 George Cooney stars

-- AUDIO REVIEW --

This is a really light, sweet, fun romance. But y’all? George the trash panda stole the show. And no. I’m not even kidding.

Seriously, this is romantic comedy at its finest. A little campy, a little zany, but with a whole lot of heart. I wasn’t really sure how it was going to work for me when it first started, but my heart jumped on board quickly and it swooned and fluttered over the adorableness of Cassie and Ryan’s love story.

And for real? George was the source of a lot of laughs. I was fond of him throughout the story, but he gets his own epilogue and...I. Died. Amazing. Hilarious. And so strangely adorable. I absolutely loved it!

Jacob Morgan and Virginia Rose did a fantastic job with the narration. A quick, easy, sweetly silly audio experience and I’m on board for more! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

I wanted to like this but stalled out. And then I had a hard time wanting to pick it up. And then I started analyzing the characters and that turned out to be fatal. I mean, at heart, Cassie is pulling a monster "doing it for your own good" by stepping into her sister's company when her sister has told her not to bother. They've had a couple of conversations where the sister is all "nah, really, let it go, I don't care" and Cassie is all "I'll preserve it for when you come to your senses". Which might be fine for a day or two, but after weeks and more, it's time to acknowledge that Cassie is treating her sister like a child and preserving something she obviously doesn't care about.

And I was more and more discontented with Ryan's excuse for why he said what he did back when they were sorta-friends. Like, it was still a crap thing to do as a friend as well as being agency-stealing. And I get that they were young and he's obviously matured and is a hunk (just look at the cover!) and all. But still.

And all of that is before you get to the background. A sex toy factory located in a small town! Town division over dildos! A pet racoon! Dildo football! That Cassie can totally turn into a game app! Employees who give out free lube-flavored snow cones at the town fair! Oh, and best of all Cassie is a virgin and Ryan is happy to sign up for taking care of that for her!

So you can see that stepping back was a fatal error. So I'm going to dnf this. The thing is, it's kind of an accidental dnf and many of the things I'm griping about didn't bother me while I was reading along. So I'm going to let it go without rating because at this point, it just doesn't seem fair...

Hilarious and sweet rom-com….

Put two of my favourite authors together and they came up with rom-com genius! Cassie and Ryan had history but once they got it sorted out things didn’t settle down like you might think. No, their sizzle blazed hot (thank goodness Ryan was a yummy fireman!) and was peppered with sweetness and laughter. They were both all about being real and their reality right now? Yeah, one side-splitting disaster after another… And it was more than that – as if that wasn’t enough! This was not a dark, serious book – the farthest from that you could get – yet there were still home truths that made their way sneakily (and entertainingly) into this one stop read…

The characters, their story, were unique and funny without ever feeling over the top. Their conversations, the situations they found themselves in had me laughing through it all. Small town characters, sisterly texts, work complications (that had me ROFL) and an interesting pet (that everyone should experience) meant it was a great unique read!

My favourite read of the year (so far, I’m hoping they will write more!). ~Diane, 5 "George Cooney" Stars

Just an average day for small town firefighter Ryan O' Dell and his team when they get a 911 call to douse the flames at the new sex toy factory. Townspeople hold divided loyalties over if the factory is good for the economy, or if it is welcoming pervision into their town. Holding down the fort is the owner's sister and she and Ryan have a history. Cassie Sunderwell will never forgive her high school humilation led by Ryan. A nerd and a virgin still, Cassie cannot deny that she is still attracted to Ryan.

People in this town like to tell you who you are. Makes thinking of yourself harder than it sounds.

This novel had plenty of hilarious moments, an interesting villian, and a charming romance. Oh and George Cooney, Ryan's pet raccoon, who is quite the little charmer. Would I read more of the Happy Cat series? If the rest are as great as this one, you better believe that I will.

Okay, this didn’t work for me. It should’ve because I love OTT humor, shenanigans, sexy firemen, and quirky FMCs. So, why didn’t it work?

The small town has a dildo factory owned by the FMC’s sister. She rides a bike with dildo handles. The town snowball stand uses lube flavors. Kids playing football with dildos. << Integration of kids with dildos didn’t make for humor… it gave me the creeps. There’s a time, place, and age for everything.

The FMC is nerdy quirky, but I never really see or feel her personality because it’s overtaken by situational writing. Blushing virgin nerd is all the reader sees. Same with the MMC - sweet firefighter. Same with the romance… you’re told it’s there, but there isn’t anything to show you the chemistry, why, how, what.

The sister’s ex screwing a sheep? Yuck. Not necessary.

The raccoon is the only bright light.

The CHAPTERS of text messages between the FMC and her sister were boring and killed the pace of the story.

Didn’t laugh once by 50%. DNF.

Sample gives the reader a good gauge on the tone and tempo of the plot and character personalities.

Very cute! I've been wanting to read this for so long. I listened to the audio.
Alternating POVs.
I was worried that they'd get stuck in re-hashing the past. I usually don't like that & I really don't
like it when going back to the high school years. Just move on!
They did move on.
So many cute scenes. It was fun when they saw each other- the meet cute was fun.
Cassie's texts back & forth to her sister Savannah were a great way to keep the inner monologue down & still get some thoughts and sort out some stuff.

3.5 Oh what can I say Stars

As you can see I am in the minority here on the rating. Look, 3.5 stars isn’t a bad book for me. I thought it was a good book, but there were issues I had. I felt like the romance aspect of the book was the back-burner or better yet overshadowed by the side plot and comical tone of the book. I didn’t feel like the chemistry between the main characters, but the funny dialogue saved the book for me.

The best part of the book was how funny the town was. The side characters added a lot to the book, so much in fact, I think it outshined the main characters. In the end I guess that is okay because it made for an amusing audio read.

I like Jacob Morgan’s voice a lot (this is Zachary Webber’s other name for steamier reads). He can read a bit fast for me at times, but I rather have a fast narrator than a slow one. Virginia Rose was not my cuppa. She didn’t sound like a twenty-something Heroine. I am really picky when it comes to female voices and I like them a little higher pitched and more youth-ful, however she didn’t take away from the read for me.

The main reason I wanted to read this book was because the Heroine was a virgin, but to be honest this book was not steamy. Sure there was steam, but I was looking more for an erotic book and I got a simple chit-lit read. It’s another thing I have issues with naked men on covers, it’s very misleading for me.

There wasn’t anything wrong with the characters persay. The Heroine was fun and her personality was out there. The Hero is typical and a nice decent guy. Like I said, I didn’t see the chemistry and there was hardly any foreplay or sexual tension (in my opinion).

The side characters made the book for me. The Whole town was funny and I enjoyed the plot. I liked that the heroine worked at the dildo factory and to read about that stuff was just out loud funny.

Anyhow, it was a decent read, but a little misleading for me.

Small Town | Romantic Comedy | Interconnected Standalones

Romantic Comedies are among my favorite types of books. I love a book that will not only charm me but make me laugh out loud. In my pursuit of finding the next great romcom I stumbled upon this series by Pippa Grant and Lili Valente and all my wishes came true! This is one heck of a funny book. George Cooney stole the show, but I did love the main characters too. This book is a small town, neighbors to lovers, romantic comedy. The hero is a sexy firefighter and the heroine is a gamer girl (yes, they are COMPLETE OPPOSITES). While they may not appear to fit together, they truly are DESTINED to be together. Their chemistry is off the charts and the way they fall in love is swoony! I enjoyed this one immensely and recommend it to all romantic comedy fans!

PS: If you’re wondering who George Cooney is, he’s a trash bandit. A racoon. One who enjoys playing with dildos, eating penis lollipops, and scavenging for clues. He’s smart than your average coon and clearly fits in well with the people of Happy Cat! I hope to see much more of him in the future!

dnf ~ i don't even know

I've tried a number of romantic comedies and they never work for me. The humor is just so...cringe. I don't think I've ever laughed at any of the supposed jokes in one and this is no exception.
Maybe the cheating husband fucking a sheep would have been a better subject to explore 🤡

HiActually this book was fine and I did end up liking it. So maybe I should make it a 3 star review. HOWEVER, it was very fluffy and sweet which is not what I got from the blurb. Did the person who wrote the blurb even read the book? Or did it drastically change between edits? I'm feeling petty, so I'm doing an analysis below

Cassie agrees to help her sister, Savannah out after she finds out her husband betrayed her in a way she couldn't even put in words, well she did with a big banner but Savannah needs to leave to try to find herself again. Cassie doesn't know the first thing about running a sex toy factory, she tries her best especially since she has never even had sex before. Then she runs into the boy she hates after a highschool incident that mortified her, but firefighter Ryan O'Dell has become a man who she can't take her eyes off of but she still hates him even if she has to keep doing a note to self in her own mind.

Ryan is not sure what he did to Cassie but he sure wants to change her opinion and fast. There is something about Cassie that has Ryan looking at a possible future with her and his raccoon side kick George. All is going well on fixing the past when someone becomes intent on destroying the sex toy factory and Cassie while they are at it. Can Ryan figure it out while keeping Cassie safe before the town jumps in and tries to run her out of town?

This was a pure delight to read. Hilarious through out and George the raccoon is a great asset to the story. Cassie is a lot of fun and what I liked about this story is the way you can visualize everything from the details about clothes to the town folk and their gossiping ways. So glad someone recommended this, well worth picking this up.
