Premier League's Best Fans: Ranking the Supporters of Each Club

As we all know, the Premier League is the most popular league in the world but what we all wonder at one point, what club has the best supporters?

With the worldwide reach of most of the clubs through either foreign owners or popularity coming from their success in the league, each club has fan bases far beyond England.

With that being said, based on the popularity abroad and domestically plus attendance figures, here are the rankings for the best supporters in the Premier League.

Wigan is not a football town, it is a rugby town.

Not many people attend games at the DW Stadium, a bit over 17,000 to be exact, which this season is second to last in the Premier League.

It does not help that the club are not that successful either with the Latics being relegation contenders for the past few seasons.

Let's just say that if Wigan get relegated, the supporters will not care that much due to their successful rugby team.

QPR have the lowest attendance figure this season in the Premier League.

That is one factor contributing to their low position on this list.

Loftus Road also only has a capacity of 18,360, so the R's are close to selling out each game but they do not have as many supporters as their rival London clubs like Chelsea or Fulham.

West Brom have been a club that have bounced between the Premier League and Championship in recent seasons.

The Baggies have failed to fully establish themselves as a regular in the Premier League and until that happens, attendance may not go up.

There is potential for the support of the club to grow with a star player like Peter Odemwingie to root and Roy Hodgson seems to know what he is doing as manager after his slip up at Liverpool.

Swansea became the first Welsh side to play in the Premier League and they have held their own in the league and have received good support from their fans as well.

The Swans are another club that have a smaller stadium with the Liberty Stadium only being able to hold 20,532 fans.

As is the case with clubs that are going between the top two divisions of English football, Swansea will gain more fans if they stay in the Premier League longer and put together good results in a long time span.

If this were a few years ago, Bolton fans would have been in a much better state.

But now instead of playing in Europe like they were in the 2007-08 season, the Trotters are on a path straight to the Championship.

And with a drop in form comes a drop in fan support as well.  No fan wants to see their favorite club struggle mightily but that is exactly what is happening with Bolton at the moment.

Fulham have been an established club in the Premier League for close to a decade now but they do not have as big of a fan base that the other well established clubs have.

The Cottagers are stuck in a hard place with a rather small stadium in Craven Cottage and being in London where other clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal take the top billing.

There is that small part of support Fulham has gotten in America with Clint Dempsey in the squad now, and Brian McBride and Kasey Keller in the past but the club can not even get a grasp on fans from other countries because of the other big clubs.

After seeing tons of success in the 1970s, Wolves fans have not seen quite the amount of achievement since.

The club has been one of those clubs yet again that makes it into the Premier League but fails to have a permanent impact in the league.

With that fortune, the club's fans get teased of staying in the Premier League but they do get the glory of winning titles in the lower divisions like their 2008-09 Championship title, a trophy they may be contending for next season.

What a tenuous year it has been for Blackburn supporters, but it also given outsiders a view of how passionate one club's fans can be.

It became routine for Rovers fans to protest outside of Ewood Park before home games because of their dissatisfaction with ownership over the managerial situation.

Ever since Sam Allardyce was fired by new owners, Venky's after their takeover last November, fans have been critical over current manager Steve Kean and give Kean credit that he and his club have performed under the pressure from their ever so passionate fans.

Norwich have been the most impressive of the three promoted sides and so have their fans.

Carrow Road has been packed close to capacity for most home games this season and deservedly so as the Canaries are the closest to an exciting Blackpool side from last season.

With late game excitement provided from the likes of Grant Holt on a regular basis and being the only Premier League club in East Anglia, the Canaries have a solid fan base and team, and it looks like we will see the club and their fans in the top flight for a while.

Ever since their promotion to the Premier League after the 2007-08 season, Stoke and their fans have made the Britannia Stadium a fortress.

In two of their three seasons in the top flight, the Potters have racked up 10 wins at home, an impressive feat for a club that has been stuck in the middle of the table since their entry to the Premier League.

The Potters have six wins at home this season so far and will try to get to double digits yet again with a late season run of form.

Aston Villa have been in the Premier League since its inception in 1992 and have a solid fan base to back the club.

Although some fans were upset by hiring Alex McLeish as manager from rivals Birmingham, what is more frustrating for Villa fans is the record financial loss reported for last year and the fact that the club are struggling in 15th place this season.

Pushing all the negative aside, Villa still have a very strong fan base and no matter what the future holds for them there will be plenty of Villains behind them.

Everton have been one of the most consistent clubs in the Premier League over the past decade and they also have a group of dedicated fans.

The Toffees supporters travel well on the road domestically and hopefully one day they will get to travel across Europe yet again.

For now, the club's fans get to enjoy the management of David Moyes, who is one of the best managers in the Premier League, and fan favorites like Marouane Fellaini and his afro.

You may wonder why Sunderland is so high on the list.

Well, look at the Premier League attendance figures and you will see why.

The Black Cats have had a strong showing from their fans since they entered the top flight in the 2007-08 season.

Attendance at the Stadium of Light has been in the top eight ever since and it looks that trend will not stop anytime soon.

Tottenham have come back to prominence in the past few seasons under the direction of Harry Redknapp and their fans have been behind them the whole time.

Spurs are one of the big three clubs in London but they do not average the same number of fans as their rivals.

If only Spurs were awarded then the Olympic Stadium, imagine what a sight that would be for Spurs fans, too bad West Ham got the new stadium instead.

Manchester City fans are quite the loyal group of supporters.

City has been through turmoil over the years after dropping at one time to the third division of English football, but their fans have stuck with the club.

Now with a fairly new stadium, the Etihad Stadium was opened in 2002, and new wealth from new ownership, City fans have been rewarded for their long wait to gain success.

Newcastle fans have endured their fare share of movement between the top two flights in England in the past few seasons and have seen the results of a club revival.

After surprisingly being relegated after the 2008-09 season, the Magpies responded brilliantly and won the Championship the next season, also during that season they led the league in attendance.

After promotion, Newcastle's attendance continued to be high as they had the third best average attendance in the 2010-11 season and thy sit in the same position this season even if St. James Park is no longer the name of the Sports Direct Arena, a controversial move made by owner Mike Ashley.

The good news for Chelsea fans is that their suffering is finally over, at least for now, with Andre Villas-Boas being fired as manager.

Chelsea fans have been through a lot during the Roman Abramovich era but they still remain loyal to the London club as the Russian owner has brought the club continued success under a plethora of managers.

The club average sellouts on a regular basis at Stamford Bridge and support for the Blues has grown worldwide during Abramovich's time in charge.

Liverpool has a global fan base and one that keeps expanding daily.

Already with a truly committed fan base in England, the Reds are now expanding into North America after the purchase of the club by New England Sports Ventures.

With Liverpool back on the rise again after some troubled times, the fan base will grow with the new success of the club.

Manchester United is claimed to be the most popular club in the world with fans spreading the globe.

United is now a global brand and their jerseys can be seen on the streets everywhere around the world.

However, the Red Devils have fans that were upset with the club and formed their own club, FC United of Manchester, not many clubs can claim that in the world.

While United may be the most popular club in the world, Arsenal boasts some of the most passionate fans in the world.

The boisterous nature of the Gooners has shown this season especially with fans having their opinion on every little thing the club does.

Also, the Gunners have their fare share of famous fans who love to make their opinion known on Twitter, Piers Morgan being a prime example .

The passion and genuine care about the club's well being from Arsenal fans is one that is hard to match and it is why they are the best fans in the Premier League.
