Position Purpose/Summary

Responsible for providing reference and information services to the public. Responsible for Makerspace tools and services and training in their use. Promotes awareness of new and emerging technologies to improve the patron experience, library services, and programming. Work is performed in accordance with accepted practices and procedures in the field of library sciences related to reference and resource material with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent professional judgment under the general direction of the Manager who reviews work through observation, reports, and conferences.

Essential Functions

  • Provides reference services to the public via in-person, telephone, email, and online forums.
  • Provides classroom and one-on-one instruction for library staff and members of the public in the use of mobile devices, digital resources, and Makerspace equipment. 
  • Manages and carries out 3D printing requests.
  • Trains staff on 3D printing equipment to provide this assistance to members of the public. 
  • Manages collection development for target areas including digital collections. Aids in selecting new materials, deselecting older materials, plans for the collection, and reports work done. 
  • Plans programming within the Makerspace; creates a welcoming environment, while providing instructions to patrons of all ages.
  • Provides presentations and one-on-one instructions on Makerspace equipment that includes tools such as but not limited to 3D printers, sound booth and recording equipment, coding equipment, green screen, and other technologies.
  • Develops and implements programs and outreach services. Seeks out and engages community groups and partners.
  • Performs related duties as required.

  • Thorough knowledge of information provision theory and practice. 
  • Specialized knowledge of various groups' reading interests. 
  • Ability to demonstrate vision, strategic thinking, collaboration and inclusive leadership skills, flexibility and adaptability and a willingness to embrace and drive change.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that accommodate a diverse population of users and learners.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and completion of an American Library Association accredited Master of Library Science.
  • Two years of experience in a public library environment.
  • Experience with and knowledge of emerging technologies preferred.
