Reyna

I don’t do relationships. A federal agent whose life revolves around rescuing kidnapped children, I’ve got no interest in catching any man who’s not a criminal. So when my new assignment in Chicago requires me to get closer to a VIP Chicago Blaze fan, Blaze goalie Jonah West is the perfect cover. Like me, he’s too focused on his career to make time for love, dates or even hookups.

Jonah

I had my great love, and I lost her. No woman will ever compare to the blond ray of sunshine who left me half a man three years ago. And even though I help out my police officer brother by pretending to be head over heels for Reyna, it’s just a farce to put an evil man behind bars. Reyna is a fierce, raven-haired cop with steely eyes and a foul mouth—not my type in the slightest. But when lines get blurred, my fake feelings for Reyna become more real than anything I thought my beat-up heart could ever feel again.

Eva Mendez look-a-like FBI agent out to capture a Jeffrey Epstein-like scumbag goes undercover as girlfriend to star goaltender Jonah West...yeah, bring it on!

Rey Diaz is one kick-ass woman, and she just might be the one to bring lonely widower Jonah back to life.
By posing as his girlfriend, it gives her an ‘in’ into the world of sports fan /scumbag /sex trafficker Darren Shields’s life. Shields is a fan of Jonah’s team (Chicago Blaze) and attends games and events for the team. A chance meeting between the feisty, courageous agent and a chance to catch his eye can lead her to a chance to bust his compound in Bermuda. But will the ‘fake’ relationship with Jonah somehow turn into the real thing? Or are the obstacles in the relationship more than they can overcome?

I really liked these two together. Jonah was still grieving but moving on from the tragic death of his wife three years ago. He’s not looking for a relationship and is getting used to being alone. But when Rey is thrown into his life he starts to feel alive again. Rey and Jonah are both all about their careers—it’s their main passions. These two had some smokin’ chemistry, but I worried if they could make room in their lives for the other. Well, because of her past, I worried most about Rey.

I shouldn’t have worried, after all, this is a romance. Getting to the HEA was a happy experience. Just wished it could’ve gone on for a few more chapters.

Jonah has featured throughout this series and losing the love of his life, his wife Lily absolutely crushed him. It’s been three years since that happened and knows that he will never have what he had with Lily ever again. His life is focused on the passion he has for his career in the NHL and he has a lot of love & support from his circle of friends on the team.

When Jonah’s brother Logan, a local cop in Chicago, calls him in to ask a favour with a case, he is happy to help him out. The person of interest they are going after has some connection to his team so he can provide an in for them. There is way more to this than that though, it comes in the form of a gorgeous, fiery undercover cop called Reyna.

Reyna has been brought in to go undercover in a case that involves kidnapping children, this is her crime specialty and something that in some ways is also deeply personal to her. She has to pretend that she is dating Jonah West and be his fake girlfriend, selling their connection to everyone in his life and on the public media stage.

Jonah is freaking gorgeous so showing interest and affection for him is no hard task for Reyna. What Jonah was not expecting was just how incredible Reyna is. She is not only beautiful but she is funny, passionate about her work and a real badass - I think he loves that the most. What he also wasn’t expecting was to feel things for her, things he hasn’t felt since he was with Lily. He feels excited by this but also a bit conflicted.

‘I’m made to be faithful, Rey. To love one woman with everything I’ve got.’

When the acting turns into real feelings, they both completely embrace what is happening between them. Jonah loves what is happening between them but he is also very aware that this can’t be a permanent thing. Once this job is done, Reyna will move onto her next undercover job so seeing each other again is out of the question. He has love and lost before but can he really put his heart through that again and survive?

This was a highly anticipated story for me in this series and it 100% delivered everything I was hoping. I loved being with Jonah as he made his journey back to love again and Reyna was the perfect person to do it with. I really loved Kai, a really important secondary character in this story, he was a fantastic to Reyna. Simply loved this story!

I really wasn't sure where this one was going as I read the first couple of chapters, didn't make sense for a romance hockey book. It didn't take long before you realized why the first part was so different, why it was important and how it related to the rest of the book.

From there the tone of the book was sort of quiet, romance the last thing on either of Jonah or Rey's mind. I liked how these two got to know each other, there was no pressure, just a slow build of a friendship and sharing of secrets. The same could be said for Rey's friendship with Kai. Towards the end you could see that things were going to be hard for everyone when things were over, but life had to go on. I liked that life did go on, but not in the way we thought, we got our HEA and so did our characters.

5 Sterne.

In this latest addition to the Chicago Blaze series, Brenda Rothert delivers a bit of a suspense drama while keeping the sports romance trope alive. The plot is a bit heavy as it involves the FBI and a the investigation into a child sex ring, one being investigated by Logan West, brother of Jonah West, the goalie from the Chicago Blaze. Logan brings together the undercover investigator Reyna Diaz and Jonah, who has access to the main culprit, Darren Shields. The setup between Jonah and Rey seemed improbable, but Brenda Rothert made me believe it could be done.

I was so excited that we'd be getting Jonah Wests story. I've heartbroken for him for a long while and wanted to see to his kind and loving man find a new HEA. And boy, does that happen.

As always, the characters, Jonah's teammates, are entertaining and add depth to the story. The dialogue is spot-on. I loved every bit of the chemistry between Reyna Diaz, a spitfire of a woman, and Jonah, from the snarky early moments to the friendship and passion that grew between them.

Both Jonah and Reyna are a bit broken. Him by the loss of wife Lily, three years in the past. Reyna has never had the chance to build a relationship. Between her job and the grief she has from losing her mother as a child, Reyna finds it hard to develop connections. They seem an unlikely duo, but their fake relationship, for the case, quickly grows into something real. The story is a great balance of the seriousness of the investigation and the palpable and very real feelings they share. I highly recommend the entire series and I'll miss the team when the series does end. But the beauty of a great book can be found in a re-read. 4.5 stars and recommendation.

Why did this book have to end?!?!? I don’t even know where to start with my favorite parts of this story.
First it starts out POWERFULLY with an intense and emotional introduction to FBI agent Reyna Diaz.

“I’ve always prided myself on not needing anyone to look out for me, but I’ve realized something with Jonah—just because I don’t need it doesn’t mean I don’t want it or deserve it.”

Second, when Reyna has to go undercover we get the best fake relationship Ever! I think I highlighted every word of their first date chapter! The Funniest fight!!

“Don’t worry about it, man. I’ll be the most convincing fake boyfriend she’s ever had.”

I’ve really enjoyed all of the Chicago Blaze stories and after each one I think “this is my favorite”, but Jonah.... my absolute tops!!!!

“I lost Lily, the only woman I ever thought I’d love, and then love somehow found me once again.”

Jonah is a standalone in the Chicago Blaze series. This story had some humor, a bit of suspense and all the swoon. Love, Love, Love it!!

I love this series so much. This story was no different, I binged read it in no time. I was hooked from the first page read to the last one.

Jonah is the goalie for the Chicago Blaze. He is paired with Reyna for an uncover assignment. When neither expected it, they fell in love.

This was such an amazing story that had me addicted from the start. Amazing characters with a great storyline. It was an highly entertaining page turner. Jonah and Reyna have some chemistry. Even the secondary characters were perfectly crafted.

This is part of a series of hockey player but it can be easily read as a standalone. Told in a dual POV with an HEA. I highly recommend this story. The entire series is a must read too.

I'm going to opt out of this one.
I've enjoyed the series so far but there are a couple of things that I'm not keen on in this one.
The heroine is an undercover cop investigating children being abducted for sex.
Hero in chapter 1 reveals he is a widow for 3 years and he's still hung up on his wife, he blatantly says there is either her or noone.
The premise is a fake relationship between the Hero and heroine so she can get close to a suspect who is famous and moves in the outskirts of the hockey world.
Hero has been celibate since his wife died.

I've been mostly following the Chicago Blaze series and it's had a lot of interesting characters. One of which is Jonah whose been in the background a lot. We know he is a widower and it's still on his mind.

Don't know how orthodox it is to have a hockey player help out in a police investigation even if he's just a cover. Reyna and Jonah had a purely business relationship if you can call it that. I mean no interest accept that they both are good looking and they have to work together. Jonah is a such a nice and solid guy.

Rey haf an interesting job being in charge of a sort of SVU unit for the police. I did like her fiery passion about her job. I like that both of them are dedicated to their career. It may be wrong timing to start something, with how much their jobs keep them going. She has a spot for fighting what's right despite how hard it is.

They took a while from the fake thing to have more. Which was a good pace since this book isn't too long. Being with Rey woke Jonah up feelings he kept hidden, though it was mutual it was complicated situation. They're rather cute together though when give in to that attraction. They got a good rapport. I wondered how they would sort things out and I'm glad they did. Im happy Jonah got his well deserved HEA after what he's been though.

This book was so good! It is definitely one of my favorites of Ms. Rothert’s. Reyna is such a strong but beautiful woman who works undercover for the FBI. I think she is wonderful to want to get the sickos who use children sexually. I don’t think I could ever do what she did, but I admire that someone like her could. Jonah has such a wonderful heart even though it was broken three years ago. I hated to see that he wasn’t really living his life. I was so glad his brother asked him to pretend to be Reyna’s boyfriend for her undercover job. I loved watching the two get to know each other and could feel them falling in love. It broke my heart what Kai, who Reyna lived with in Chicago, had to go through because of his sexuality. People need to look beyond the outside and see what is in others’ hearts. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

Jonah by Brenda Rothert was love story that transcended its trope... "fake relationships" aren't always my jam but I have wanted a happy for Jonah so long I happily drove in and man was I blown away. The premise for the relationship was so powerful, it had me rooting for all parties involved!
As federal agent Reyna and NHL goalie Jonah start to intertwine their lives the chemistry is tangible and the banter is so engaging.
This book is more than just a story the author masterfully crafted a world that pulled me in. Kai was such a great character.... this non-binary character, is a secondary character who is a friend to, Rey. And WOW, just WOW, Kai's vulerability will pull at your heartstrings.
I do hope we get a story for Jonah's brother, Logan, his hard working dedicated cop needs a happy!
The happy Jonah and Reyna find a so very perfect for them!
I am so excited for KIT next in the Chicago Blaze series, the very small glimpse into his mindset grabbed my heart!

Jonah is the goalie for the Chicago Blaze who is still trying to heal from the devasting loss of his wife a few years earlier. He is unable to say no when his brother requests that he pretend to be in a relationship with an undercover federal agent besides with his heart belong to the one he loved and lost it’s not like they will develop feelings for each other, right?

Reyna’s career in law enforcement is more than a job it is the driving force of her life. She is used to undercover assignments so pretending to be involved in a relationship with a sexy hockey star is just another day at the office, right?

Neither was prepared for not only the attraction between them but the emotional connection as well but between his past and her career is there any way for this to end other than in heartbreak?

I really enjoyed Reyna and Jonah together as they help each other heal from the past and find the happiness they both deserve.

Oh Jonah. I love Brenda Rothert's Chicago Blaze series and each of the players!! They're all a family or at least try to be one. I find that team camaraderie just so amazing and admirable. I wasn't really a team sports girl so I missed that teamwork feel.

Anyway, Jonah is available to help Reyna with an undercover assignment that she needs an "in" with. And Jonah, a coworker's brother, is the perfect cover. And Jonah isn't looking for a relationship so helping Reyna by being a "boyfriend" is great. Until feelings because feelings.

Reyna isn't looking for a relationship either and their partnership takes on a new turn for her and her sassy self fights it. Which who could blame her?

Another series I will be going back and re-reading because each of these guys is different in beautiful ways.

You would think after six books, there could be no more to write about, but you could not be more wrong when it comes to Brenda Rothert. In the seventh book in the Chicago Blaze series, we get Jonah and Reyna’s story and it was an unexpected and captivating fake relationship romance. Jonah has no intention to ever love a woman again. He had his great love and nothing could compare, right? Reyna is all about her job and chasing criminals. She has to time for relationships. When they need to work together and she needs an in, a fake relationship gives them the cover they need. But as they spend time together, lines begin to blur as their chemistry steams up the pages. Will they be able to find their happily-ever-after? A definite must-read!

Jonah finally!!! Talk about two complete opposite individuals. Reyna and Jonah were total opposites. She’s an FBI Agent that is a baddie and one of the best in her job. He’s a NHL goalie a widow and not interested in dating. But then they are paired for an assignment and start off on shaky grounds. They both thought that the other was gorgeous but that was it. Rey liked being in control and so did Jonah. She was nothing like his deceased wife who was very sweet and patient Teo things far from what Reyna was lol. But they couldn’t deny that they were falling for each other. It was beautiful to finally see Jonah moving on with his life and it was nice to see Reyna finally fall for someone. Besides the assignment that was just a terrible thing, this was a great story.

After meeting Jonah in the previous books and knowing what’s happened with him, I was really rooting for him to have a happily ever after.
He deserved one.
Perhaps this is just my opinion. But I’m sticking by it! I’m very happy he has his own story!

Anyways -

Rey in an undercover FBI agent who saves children. It’s her life mission. She is placed in Chicago for a new undercover assignment and she gets to ‘use’ Jonah as her fake boyfriend for this operation. Not a bad fake boyfriend to have at all. I’d take him!
Then lines start to get blurry....
I greatly enjoyed these two characters!

LOVED THIS STORY

This story had me me cry tears, made me angry, made me happy, made me laugh. This book was everything I wanted for Jonah and more. Kai is an amazing side character and maybe one day Brenda will step out of her norm and give us their story.

Lily was one of a kind in previous books and it was gonna take someone just as amazing for Jonah to let love in again but Rey was exactly what he needed

Ganz klare Leseempfehlung!

I am beyond addicted with this brilliant hockey series from Brenda Rothert.
Her hockey men are so easy to love. In this thrilling novel we learn the fate of Jonah, a man who is at the top of his game and career but he is alone there at the top. His beloved wife was taken way too young and so for him the remainder of his career will be spent solo.
Reyna suffered through some unspeakable tragedy growing up and instead of crippling her it has only made her stronger. A tough as nails FBI agent who seeks justice and freedom for children and women who have suffered abuse.
When an undercover assignment for Reyna brings these two together, it was thought that as they are both career minded, nothing would cloud the case and blur the lines. As many have learned, life and love are not confined to our finite plans.
Follow these two through so many twist and turns that you will not want this ride to end. I want more of this captivating couple and look forward to catching more glimpses of them in the future.

I loved this book! I think it was my favorite in the series, although they have all been favorites. Just a case of my favorite right now! I loved Jonah, what a decent guy! And Reyna was of Cuban descent, so close to my heart since Puerto Rico and Cuba are like the wings of a bird, sister countries. I totally got the reference to ropa vieja, a favorite dish!

Jonah lost his beloved wife three years ago, and is now a determined bachelor. He swore forever love with his wife, and he doesnt want another woman in his life. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t feel loneliness but he accepts his circumstances. Until his brother Logan embroils him in an undercover investigation!

Reyna is an undercover agent specializing in sex crimes. She needs to get evidence against a big criminal in Chicago, a high roller with a compound in Bermuda. The way to get close to him is through his friendship with the Chicago Blaze owner, so Jonah is enrolled to assist in the undercover operation. Jonah’s brother Logan is a cop and he’s in charge of the investigation where Reyna will be gathering evidence.

What begins as a collaboration slowly turns into a friendship that turns into love. For Reyna there’s a conflict between her life mission and her growing attachment to Jonah. For Jonah, there’s guilt every time he finds himself pining for Reyna.

There’s a third character in this story that I just loved, Kai. The son of a deputy, Kai is a beauty influencer who helps Reyna with her fake persona as a beauty blogger. He’s also a pansexual guy, flamboyant and wearing more makeup than Reyna ever had. He caused a lot of tender feelings because although initially he was very introverted and reticent, slowly he warmed up to Reyna and the author reveals him in all his awesome glory. He’s irreverent and fun, and such a great friend to Reyna.

I loved this couple and how they came to love. The suspense of the investigation added a nice touch of spice and a reason for Jonah to open his heart to a new chance at love. The way the author developed their relation and their falling in love was just perfectly implemented, it was such a lovely process! I always end up Brenda Rothert’s books with a happy smile because her books are so sweet and special, very uplifting!

We're almost at the end of the beloved Chicago Blaze series by author Brenda Rothert, and finally, finally, she's given us Jonah's book. Jonah has been a constant throughout the series, the guy that has been dealt a heartbreaking blow, but who has been the steady one, the teammate that has been a friend and a sounding board for all of his brothers.

When Jonah lost his beloved Lily, he didn't think that his heart would ever be open to love again. After all, Lily was his soul mate, his other half, his sunshine, and her death left a hole that he wasn't looking to fill.

Rey Diaz is Lily's polar opposite. She's kicking butt and taking names as an FBI agent dead-set on bringing down the worst of the worst. She's not some girly girl that has the time or the inclination to be tied to Jonah West, hockey star or no. She doesn't do emotion, doesn't have a life that lends itself to falling in love and settling down.

This book is a bit of a departure for the series. While there is plenty of ice time, camaraderie, and focus on the game, Brenda gives us a nice slice of romantic suspense with the presence of Rey, the FBI, and a ripped-from-the-headlines storyline that makes this book one heck of a page-turner. And I thoroughly enjoyed the sparks that flew between Jonah and Rey, and seeing these two 'not looking for a romance' characters finding their way to each other and their HEA.

Brenda originally won me over with her Fire On Ice series, so reading the Chicago Blaze books has been a return to a genre that I really enjoy. While I'm sad to see the series reaching its conclusion, I have enjoyed every single book, and am looking forward to Kit's book. In the meantime, fans of Brenda and this series will absolutely love Jonah and Rey and their unconventional and unexpected road to love. ❤️

Another fun Chicago Blaze story! Hockey and hot guys--I don't know what more we need... ;)

While reading Jonah and Rey's story, the pages practically turned themselves! A fake relationship story with a hint of suspense (it's the reason why they're in the fake relationship, but the focus here is really on Jonah and Rey falling in love, not Rey's mission) I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I spent with this story from their we're-not-getting-off-on-the-right-foot first date to their OMG-she'd-better-pull-this-off-because-she's-killing-me-with-this-let's-go-back-to-our-previous-lives-BS HEA!

And did I mention the hockey players? Yes? ;)

(Rey's roomie/new BFF was a fabulous character as well--I seriously didn't want to leave Kai behind when I finished the book.)

I loved that widower Jonah was able to (finally) find love again with Rey without vilifying his first wife or diminishing the relationship they had--one of my biggest pet peeves in romance. He was conflicted about it of course, but it felt like exactly the right amount of angst was involved without drawing things out too much or making him suffer too much. And giving us a small glimpse into the teammate whose story is next? Definitely whetted my appetite!

As with the other Chicago Blaze books, Jonah would work just fine as a standalone. If you've read any (or all) of the other books, you'll love the glimpses you get of the other players and their significant others, but you don't have to have read their stories to enjoy this one. (You *should* read them of course, but you don't *have* to!)

Rating: 4 stars / A-

Not going to lie, I’ve been anxiously waiting for this book ever since Brenda threw the mother of all plot twists at us with the death of Jonah’s high school sweetheart/wife, earlier in the series. And it did not disappoint. If you’re like me and a huge fan of Brenda Rothert’s Chicago Blaze Series then you are seriously invested in each and every player’s story and Jonah’s is particularly special.

Before starting this book, I asked myself how I was going to feel, reading about a widowed Jonah. How was his moving on going to be handled? Answer: It was handled brilliantly. Not one to say no to his law enforcement brother, Jonah agrees to participate in an undercover operation where a sexy, standoffish agent poses as his girlfriend. Talk about a perfect way to ease us into Jonah dating again - even if only for appearances sake.

Reyna is a career oriented, balls to the wall, serious as a heart attack woman. She is dedicated to her job, to the point that her love life is non existent and her ability to fake it till you make it skills have her posing as a, head over heels, in love/lust with a professional hockey player woman. She is very convincing - perhaps too convincing as she proves to not be immune to the sexy as sin man’s charms.

The off the charts chemistry between the two is anything but fake and when things start to heat up between them, confusion reigns as neither one is willing to admit their feelings are real, for fear that the other’s are not.

Watching them fall head over heels in love made my book loving heart happy and gave Jonah the happily ever after he so rightly deserved. Jonah gets the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval. TBR this fantastic little read and Enjoy!

Jonah unexpectedly lost his wife three years ago. He knows that he will never find love like that again. When his police officer brother asks him to pretend to be in a relationship with Reyna to catch a child trafficker he reluctantly agrees. What he doesn’t expect is to actually fall for her.

I am so glad Jonah found love again. The sudden death of his wife Lily in the previous book, Victor, was heartbreaking for everyone. I liked Jonah in previous books but I really grew to love him with this book. Reyna was a kickass heroine who is determined to save as many children as she can. I loved her dedication to her job and her determination to help. She was just a great heroine, who had some childhood traumas that shaped her life.

Jonah and Reyna start off very hostile to each other but that changes quickly.Their fake relationship quickly becomes real. I love a good fake relationship romance and this one really was top notch, especially considering the heavy and emotional reasoning for the relationship.

Overall, this was another amazing book for the Chicago Blaze series. This series is the perfect blend of emotional heartbreak and romance. I can’t get enough of it! I am now eagerly waiting for the next book!
