Golden Bears and PSAC ready for return to competition; KU announces spectator policy

PSAC announces return to play guidelines for spring 2021 (Feb. 26)

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University athletics is primed for a return to competition following a near year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The department announced Friday afternoon that spectators will not be permitted at home sporting events to start the spring season, placing the health and safety of Golden Bear student-athletes, coaches and staff at the forefront of its decision. Additionally, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) also issued its return to play guidelines, Friday, including alterations to championship formats for a number of spring sports.

Earlier this month, KU athletic teams returned to practice following a return to play plan that was a collaborative effort between KU Health and Wellness Services, Sports Medicine Department and athletic administration in conjunction with guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the PSAC.

A limited capacity crowd of senior student-athlete parents will be permitted to attend the Senior Day ceremony of their respective son or daughter, a process that will be handled through an internal ticketing system. Spectator seating areas will not be accessible at this time; however, Kutztown University will continue to monitor the situation throughout the semester and relay any changes to policies on its official athletics website, KUBears.com, and its athletic social media channels.

Kutztown University's Office of Sports Information will make efforts to provide live stats and live streaming video for as many home events as possible. Links to live coverage can be found under the GOLDEN BEARS SCHEDULE section at KUBears.com and on each team's schedule page.

Kutztown plans to conduct full spring seasons in the sports of baseball, softball, women's golf, women's lacrosse, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track & field. Fall and winter teams have convened for practice and may compete in a limited fashion this spring. Men's and women's cross country will compete at the PSAC Championships, March 20, in Lock Haven, but no further details have been solidified for non-traditional season sports competitions at this time.

Team schedules are available at KUBears.com and can be quickly accessed by hovering over the TEAMS section of the main menu bar.

The PSAC will not allow spectators at men's and women's cross country championships. They will be permitted at men's and women's golf championships. Spectators being permitted at outdoor track & field championships is still to be decided. All PSAC championship spectator policies are subject to change.

The athletic department continues to closely monitor the fluidity of the COVID-19 pandemic and warns followers that safety protocols, game dates, times and opponents are subject to change at any time. All updates will be conveyed through KUBears.com and on the athletic department's official social media accounts.
