2019-20 CoSIDA Academic All-America Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Kutztown University's two-time All-American discus thrower, Luke Hoffman (York, Pa./West York), was honored for his combined athletic and academic excellence, Wednesday, when he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America NCAA Division II Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team.

Hoffman is the second Golden Bear to earn the prestigious national distinction in as many years after Caleb Baukman (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) was named to the 2019 Second Team. Overall, the men's track & field and cross country programs are responsible for seven of Kutztown's 34 all-time Academic All-Americans dating back to 1993. The teams are selected by members of the Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The rising senior from York, Pennsylvania, was the bronze medalist in the discus throw at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Kingsville, Texas, to claim All-America First Team accolades. As a freshman, Hoffman placed 10th at nationals for All-America Second Team recognition. Unfortunately, the onset of COVID-19 this past March cost Hoffman an opportunity to become just the Golden Bears' second three-time NCAA Division II Outdoor All-American, as the 2020 season was canceled.

Hoffman's impressive throwing career has been matched by his steadfast academic pursuits. The business administration major with a finance concentration appeared on his second consecutive CoSIDA Academic All-District Team when it was announced back on May 29. Hoffman, a two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and four-time KU Dean's List student, currently holds a 3.53 cumulative GPA.

Eligibility for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors required student-athletes to carry a 3.30 cumulative GPA or higher, have reached sophomore athletic eligibility, be a starter or important reserve with their respective athletic team and have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.

Hoffman is the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and PSAC Outdoor Championships record-holder in the discus with a career-best throw of 186'4" (56.80m), which came at the 2019 conference meet. In addition to a pair of All-America performances, Hoffman is a two-time All-PSAC and USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region honoree.
