2020 GBAC Virtual 5K Results
* Only participants who submitted their times to Motion Timing are included on the final results
KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- The inaugural Golden Bear Athletic Club Virtual 5K benefiting Kutztown University athletics successfully raised $5,765 and engaged more than 150 donors last weekend.
With its annual 1866 Minute Giving Challenge postponed this spring due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Kutztown University Foundation (KUF) and KU athletic department teamed up to put on the GBAC Virtual 5K, June 12-14, providing participants a chance to exhibit a healthy lifestyle choice and compete, all while supporting Golden Bear sports and student-athletes. Funds raised last weekend will go towards the athletic department's greatest needs, such as student-athlete scholarships, relieving unexpected expenses due to schedule changes, upgrades of team equipment and uniforms, offsetting team travel and enabling facility improvements.
"I'd like to thank to everyone who participated in the inaugural GBAC Virtual 5K," said director of athletics
Greg Bamberger. "Your support goes a long way, especially during these trying times we are all navigating."
The GBAC Virtual 5K was billed as an all ages event for all fitness levels. Participants ran, jogged, walked or biked 3.1 miles in a location of their choosing and many shared their photos and times through KU athletics' social media channels using the hashtag #GBAC5K throughout the weekend. A total of 151 participants signed up to take part in the event. Only participants who submitted their final times to Motion Timing appear in the results file.
The top three finishers on the men's side were Matt Delaney (21:18), Stephen Stoeffler (22:36) and Nate Caruso (24:23). KU women's basketball rising sophomore Casey Remolde posted the top time among females with a 21:20 (second overall), ahead of assistant softball coach
Liz Parkins (24:22) and Abigail Bossbaly (26:03).
"Hopefully this is an event we can continue to promote in the future," added Bamberger. "It always feels good to get a little exercise in while supporting the Golden Bears. Stay Golden. Stay Strong."
