Help Ship Supplies to Australia's Wildlife

It’s estimated that more than a billion of Australia’s animals have been killed in ongoing bushfires, with many millions more being rescued and in need of round-the-clock care for many months or years to come. And, with two months remaining in the nation’s fire season, that need will continue to grow.
You may be aware of the worldwide efforts by crafters, sewers, and knitters to craft koala mittens, bird nests, bat wraps, joey pouches, and wallaby and kangaroo bags to provide safety, comfort, and healing to injured and orphaned wildlife. These handcrafted items are made to very specific criteria, sizes, and materials that can’t simply be bought from store shelves.
There are several large organizations creating and collecting these donations for wildlife rescue organizations across Australia. However, we have identified and “adopted” two (so far) small, independent wildlife rescue and rehab facilities that aren’t getting the help they need quickly enough.
A small group of five creative and crafty animal lovers have committed to support a small rescue in Victoria that houses and cares for orphaned kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, wombats, bats, and other wildlife in the region; and, an all-volunteer bat rescue in Melbourne dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of endangered Grey Headed Flying Fox and other native Australian bats and wildlife.
Here’s where we need YOUR help.
Shipping to Australia is significantly more costly than expected. To ship a single 25-pound box is approximately $180. We are estimating the need to ship at least three boxes within the next few days and weeks with additional supplies sent to Australia as they are needed. Any funds raised beyond our goal will be used for future shipments and/or will be donated to the rescues directly.
Shipping direct to these rescues ensures the animals in their care receive the supplies they need right away, it eliminates the red-tape and lead times required to procure the supplies from organizations currently bombarded with supply requests, and allows you, our supporters, to know exactly where your funds are being used.
