Description

Miguel Román, a Physical researcher Scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, shares his journey from his childhood in San Juan, Puerto Rico to NASA. Seeing the impacts of hurricanes and urban growth where he grew up, and the practical planning underway there, interested him in studying Earth science. Using satellites at night, he can understand human behavior, change in cities, air quality, and many other things. He has been able to help his home in Puerto Rico by mapping infrastructure vulnerabilities and understanding the needs of urban and rural people for sustainable infrastructure. He also shares the satisfaction of visiting a fourth-grade class at his kids’ school and capturing the imagination of Salvadorian kids surprised to see someone like them who works in science.
