At the April 13th District 7255 meeting our Amityville Interact Club was honored for their very
successful project recognizing Mental Health Awareness. The Club members held a poster
contest (with the theme of "Don't Bottle It Up") in the Amityville High  School.
Shown above with DG Tom Crowley are Amityville Rotarians displaying
copies of the winning posters. Their sponsoring Club, Amityville Rotary, provided Interact
with cash prizes for the winners, encouragement for their ingenuity and much praise for their efforts!
 
International Service
Foundation/PolioPlus Chair Ming Chiang (Amityville Rotary) recently returned from Berlin where he was a panelist at the World Forum for Democracy. The worldwide event focused on current threats to worldwide democracies. Ming also received an award for his sponsoring of a film about Taiwan and as a result he was asked to take part in the forum. Among the dignitaries he spent time with were Hilary Clinton, Helen Mirren and (shown with Ming) Bob Geldof, political activist (i.e., LIVE-AID) and Ban-Ki-Moon, former secretary General of the United Nations.

   Celebrating Black History Month 2024   
 
 
Amityville High School Interact Club took part in a school-wide performance celebrating Black History Month and the reviews were FANTASTIC.

Among things to be included in the bags will be personal care items: we welcome donations
which can be dropped at Southside Florist at 86 Broadway.

Promoting Peace
 
-Peace Pole Installed-
One of three Peace Poles has been installed in the Village of Amityville. Here, in the 9-11 Memorial Park on Broadway are Club members (Linda Thompson, Michele Camilleri, Virginia Belling, Donnelle Cronin, John Henry) joined by Village Trustees Roger Smith and Kevin Smith,
District 7255 AG Kevin Mann and District 7255 District Governor Tom Crowley.

A Peace Pole is a monument that displays the message "May Peace Prevail On Earth” in the language of the country where it is placed. It usually displays 3 to 7 additional languages meaningful to the host site. The message is referred to as an affirmation of peace and its placement furthers Rotary's goal of building a culture of peace throughout        the world. Peace Poles are intended to inspire unity among people of all cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds.

Their Hotline is 631-751-7500 and their suicide/crisis, immediate support line is 988 (call, text, chat).
Assistance is confidential, professional and free. It available is almost all languages 24/7.
988 is the telephone/online crisis number that connects people with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
and is for anyone who is suicidal, in mental/substance abuse crisis and/or experiencing emotional distress.
 
 
TRUNK or TREAT !
--Halloween Treats--                                                                              
Amityville Rotary Club Members got into the spooky spirit and provided treats for school children. Joining with the local Teachers Association at the High School, they set up a display in the trunk of the President's Red Rocket and invited the kids to help themselves!

Despite the rain it was a success!
We thank the Park Avenue Schools Administration and staff for their GREAT support and also to the generous members of the Lindenhurst Moose Lodge who invited us to sell our leftovers the next day at their Autumn event. 
(Special Kudos to Chairperson Kevin Battcher and Vendor Coordinator Joe Morin-  plus all the members who worked long & hard!)
It all added up to a great display of Amityville Neighbors supporting each other!

Thanks to Carolyn Dodd and her hard-working committee, The Duck Race at the
Amityville Beach was a big Success as 500 Yellow duckies raced to the finish!
