A huge thank you to our third-grade teachers and Mr. Freda for bringing back our third-grade play.  The students did an amazing job today!  I was also touched by how excited the rest of the kids were as they watched.  Overall, the show made for a great day at Oak Ridge!!  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

I am very excited to share that Oak Ridge is about to get a Face Lift.  You may have noticed the bricks falling off the ‘front’ side of our building.  In the opening to this week’s News From The Nest I explain to the kids that when we return from break the construction will be under way (weather permitting).  We have begun planning for the impact that the construction will have on specific areas.  I will keep you updated as we go, but have included a few of the important changes below along with the rest of our updates and reminders...

Oak Ridge is proud to share our weekly news program, News from the Nest, with you!  News from the Nest is produced by students with the help of Mrs. Irvin and several other staff members.  The program has been providing parents, grandparents, and students an insight into life at Oak Ridge since 2011.  Enjoy the latest episode below:

This morning we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s Birthday by reading in the hallway as a school.  It was a great way to start our day.  Next week we will celebrate Read Across America Week.  Thanks to Mrs. Buck for coming up with our fun calendar and great books to read for the week.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

I want to thank everyone for the support we had for our recess sledding adventures earlier in the week.  I was so impressed with how well the kids handled sharing the sleds, waiting turns, and cheering each other on.  Overall, we are hoping that we helped to create some more positive school memories for the students that they will remember for a long time.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

We started the day with our first Fun Friday of 2024 with a classroom scavenger hunt.  Mrs. Derstine’s and Mrs. D’s classes won their class owls by being the first intermediate and primary classes to gather all items, but all the classes seemed to enjoy working as a team.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

The excitement and energy continues to build as we approach break.  We certainly wouldn’t discourage really long family hikes or other active adventures for the kids this weekend!  In all seriousness, we understand the excitement this time of year brings to the kids and try to provide healthy outlets here at school, some of which you’ll find below...

We started the day off with a Fun Friday Oak Ridge School Bingo game.  The kids seemed to enjoy the activity.  Congratulations to H2, H8, G1 and G3 for winning their classroom owls in today’s Bingo game.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

I am overwhelmed with pride following our Veterans Day assembly.  The students did such an amazing job singing, listening, and presenting.  They were truly on their best “Owl” behavior!  The Veterans were so thankful for the kind tribute, and many expressed how impressed they were with our students.  Overall, it was a great learning experience for our students.  Here are some additional updates and reminders...

We had a Fun Friday at Oak Ridge!  Today’s challenge was to identify twenty mystery pictures from around the building.  SO many classes got all the answers correct and H5 and G3 were selected from the drawing.  They will pick their class owls on Monday.  Here are a few additional updates and reminders...

We had a fantastic Owl Time assembly today led by our Wise Owls and fourth grade.  We learned about animals and our Character Counts Traits.  Thank you for all the support with our Character Counts week, so many students participated each day.  Here are a few additional updates and reminders...

We started our day with a Fun Friday Phire Drill.  We had our monthly fire drill and then once it was completed, we formed a baseball diamond on the playground and sang, ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ in celebration of the Phillies big win last night.  The kids did a great job, so look for  on next week’s News From The Nest.  Here are a few additional updates and reminders...

Our first Fun Friday activity was a success.  We have many well-traveled students!  In the end, Mr. Smith’s class won the first classroom Owl with 46 states visited.  I was also impressed with the several students who memorized to Nifty Fifty song.  Thank you for all your help with this activity!  Here are a few additional updates and reminders for the week...

Five of the books that an elementary student reads in the summer can count toward their goal of reading 25 – 30 books in the next school year.  In order to meet the standard for proficient readers, students need to read at least 25 books each year. See the Elementary Summer Reading List for Students Entering 1st through 5th Grade in 2023-2024.
