PLE Principals Update
April 19, 2021
Dear PHamily,
We have welcomed our last group of students and the emotions were high for our fourth and fifth graders – staff and students. At the same time, we continue to celebrate our virtual students and staff who continue to engage in remote learning!
Before the break, our Eagle and PLE administrators visited every classroom virtually and in-person to celebrate the amazing work our students and staff have done during the past weeks. As a community, we have shown resilience through this pandemic and our students and staff continue to show their compassion, empathy, compromise communication and love. I really hope you took the time to do what you enjoy the most.
We are so grateful for our PTA for supporting us in welcoming back our students. PTA bought supplies and materials for all our in-person students. Please consider joining our amazing PLE PTA.
Warmly,
Melisa Macias, PLE Principal
All Students – Remote Learning – April 19 – 23
As identified in the MOU from January, the week after spring break will be remote for all students, PreK-12 and Transitions.
Are students and staff expected to quarantine after traveling?
Yes. Travel increases your chance of spreading and getting COVID-19. The CDC recommends you delay travel and stay home to protect yourself and others from COVID-19, even if you are vaccinated or have previously had COVID-19.
According to the CDC, if you must travel, take steps to protect yourself and others:
- If you are eligible, get fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
- Before you travel, get tested with a viral test 1-3 days before your trip.
- Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when in public.
- Avoid crowds and stay at least 6 feet/2 meters (about 2 arm lengths) from anyone who did not travel with you.
- Get tested 3-5 days after your trip and stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel, even if your test is negative. If you don’t get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
- Follow all state and local recommendations or requirements after travel.
Please contact your child's teacher if your student is planning to quarantine, so we can plan accordingly.
Health Attestation
Each student must complete the health attestation "Health Check" (bsd405.org) prior to entering the building DAILY. It is recommended you download the app on your smart phone if you have not done so already. It makes it quick and easy to do before leaving your home.
- There are two ways to access Health Check daily: scan the QR code mailed to each student w/ your smart phone OR go to: https://healthcheck.bsd405.org
- Add an icon to your phone or computer home screen for easy access: https://bsd405.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/BSD-Health-Check-Mobile-Home-Screen-Tip-Sheet-English.pdf
- Tip Sheet: https://bsd405.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/BSD-Health-Check-Staff-Tip-Sheet-English.pdf

Counselor's Corner!
Hello Phamilies,
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and in recognition of it I’d like to share some facts about childhood sexual abuse as well as information on how to talk with your children about it. It’s never too early to start talking about it and it’s often easier than you’d think. Child sexual abuse is unfortunately much more common than we’d like to think but the good news is that regularly talking with your children about it is one of the most effective ways to prevent it from happening.
Understanding the facts is the first step to prevention:
- 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 20 boys report experiencing sexual abuse by the age of 18.
- Children under the age of 9 are the most likely to be sexually abused.
- In 90% of cases, sexually abused children know their abuser.
- Nearly 36% of offenders are older children or teenagers.
- There’s no one type of offender: they can be a friend, family member, neighbor, teacher, or coach of any gender.
Informed children are less likely to be abused, and those who feel comfortable talking openly with a caring adult are more likely to disclose abuse if it happens.
The attached guides offer age-appropriate suggestions on how to start the conversation. You can also view these by clicking here: https://www.cfchildren.org/resources/child-abuse-prevention/
If you have any questions or would like to talk with me, I am happy to! I will be available after Spring Break on 4/19 – just email me or call – my contact information is below 😊
