Transitioning to the Next Phase of California's

COVID-19 Vaccination Program

The State of California and Blue Shield of California have been honored to work alongside thousands of providers, healthcare organizations, and local health jurisdictions across the state to help save lives by enabling vaccination of Californians against COVID-19.

While the work is not yet finished, currently, and for the foreseeable future, anyone who wants to receive the COVID-19 vaccine can get vaccinated in California. This significant achievement is a testament to the tireless efforts of California’s great healthcare system and stakeholders.

With the enormous gains California has achieved just in the past few months, the State and Blue Shield have agreed that the time is right for Blue Shield to transition from its role as third-party administrator (TPA) to an advisory role, as needed. California Department of Public Health (CDPH) will resume leading the day-to-day operations and oversight of the State’s COVID-19 Vaccine Program.

As California remains one of the bright spots in the country and the world for COVID-19 vaccination, the State and Blue Shield have been honored to work together to be part of the collective effort with local health officials, providers, and other stakeholders to distribute vaccines equitably, safely, and as quickly as possible to save lives and overcome the worst public health crisis of our lifetime.

Providers, multiple county entities, and local health jurisdictions who are approved for administering the COVID-19 vaccine will continue in the current vaccine ordering process. If you have questions about future participation with the State of California to prepare for, order and receive allocation of the COVID-19 vaccine, please contact the CDPH’s COVID-19 Provider Call Center, by email at covidcallcenter@cdph.ca.gov or by telephone at (833) 502-1245, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
