Advocacy is one of the most important tenants of PTSA. We are looking for a volunteer who is willing to share local advocacy events and information that are relevant to our community; and to speak up when members of our community need advocacy. Time commitment is 2-3 hours/month + potentially more if volunteer is able to attend the Washington State Legislative Assembly in Oct.

Are you passionate about or would you like to learn more about diversity, equity, and inclusion (aka- DEI)? We are looking for a volunteer to amplify DEI voices in our community. You would be asked to attend monthly Lake Washington School District PTSA DEI meetings and report back to Family and Community Engagement VP and Communications VP so they can distribute the information to the FHMS community. Time commitment is approximately 3 hours/month + attendance at events, if any.

Ways And Means (Fundraising Chair)
Do you have a knack for fundraising? Looking for 1-2 volunteers who can increase our fundraising efforts. FHMS PTSA currently has one main fundraiser, Pass The Hat, and strives to host 2-3 small fundraisers throughout the year. Pass The Hat doesn't sell anything- we just ask for a donations from the FHMS community. Since COVID times, the Pass The Hat fundraiser has not done well. We are looking for new perspective to engage our school members and motivate them to donate to FHMS PTSA. Time commitment is 3-4 hours/month from August-October, then 1-2 hours/month from Nov-May.

Volunteer(s) begin work in early November, coordinating a holiday gift drive for families in our area who may need extra support. Volunteer(s) will work with Family and Community Engagement VP as well as President and Communications to advertise, organize, and distribute donations.

Lake Washington School Foundation (LWSF) is a fantastic non-profit that supports our district. We are looking for one volunteer to share the LWSF events with our community and to share the needs of our school with LWSF. You would share information with the Family and Community Engagement VP and the Communications VP. Time commitment is 1-2 hours per month. Membership (Nominating Committee)
We are looking for 3 volunteers who are great at talking, meeting new people, and noticing the talents/strengths of people; like a HR professional or recruiter for FHMS PTSA. Every PTA & PTSA in the country is required to elect a nominating committee each year. The nominating committee is tasked with finding new board members for the FHMS PTSA. This work can be done year round, but especially ramps up in January-March. Time commitment is 1-2 hours/month from Sept-Dec, and 2-4 hours/month from Jan-May. Volunteers must be FHMS PTSA members.

Volunteering Requirements
 
Lake Washington School District (LWSD) requires all volunteers to go through an approval process. Volunteer approvals are valid for two years. To see if your volunteer application is still current, you can log into your Raptor Volunteer Portal, contact the volunteer office at 425-936-1270 or email  volunteers@lwsd.org.
