The Diocese of Greensburg, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg and many other strategic partners are working to create a welcoming environment for Ukrainians in Westmoreland County.
On Sunday and Monday, July 30 and 31, 2023, the Diocese of Greensburg will hold Ukrainian Visit Days for individuals and families interested in learning more about living and working in Westmoreland County.
On Sunday, July 30, join us for Evening Prayer, dinner and fellowship at Christ Our Shepherd Center, 2900 Seminary Drive, Greensburg. Free overnight accommodations are available to qualified, pre-registered visitors.
On Monday, July 31, Morning Prayer and breakfast will also take place at Christ Our Shepherd Center. Bishop Kulick and Fr. Oleh will provide an overview of the Western Pennsylvania community, including what it is like to live, work and worship here and what support Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg can provide if you decide to relocate here.
Several employers will be available to discuss job opportunities. Afterward, visitors will go on a 3-hour tour of Westmoreland County to see area schools, churches, businesses, parks and entertainment venues. Lunch will also be provided. The event will end by 3 p.m. on Monday, July 31.
To offer Christ’s mercy to those displaced by the war. To bolster the workforce in Westmoreland County by providing a support network for Ukrainians looking to resettle in the United States.
Western Pennsylvania is home to the fourth largest Ukrainian population in the U.S., after past waves of immigration totaling more than 40,000 people.
The Diocese of Greensburg recognizes that carrying on the mission of Christ means we must do all we can to create a welcoming environment for the people of Ukraine. Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania wishes to welcome displaced Ukrainians to re-settle here. Westmoreland County is a wonderful, welcoming and safe place to live, work, play, worship and raise a family. There are hundreds of people, including civic and social services leaders who are ready to offer job placement, housing, rental, utility, transportation and food assistance. Westmoreland County is a mix of rural and urban communities covering 1,000 square miles with 360,000 residents who enjoy lower taxes, award-winning health care, many cultural and historical attractions, quality school systems and respected colleges and universities within our borders.

Westmoreland County is located in northeastern United States, within a 500-mile radius of 70 percent of the country’s total population. Founded in 1773, it is the second-largest county in southwestern Pennsylvania. The county encompasses more than 1,000 square miles of varied topography and is home to a population of 354,663.
This vibrant county enjoys natural beauty, a great historical legacy, a thriving economy and pleasant communities. In many ways, Westmoreland County is located in a Goldilocks zone that many say has the “just right” blend of convenient access to urban amenities and outdoor recreation opportunities in the scenic Laurel Highlands. Just to the west of the county is Pittsburgh, once named “America’s Most Livable City” and the center of the 10-county southwestern Pennsylvania region. A symbol of renewal, this one-time industrial region now enjoys a balanced, innovation-driven economy.
The County seat, Greensburg, is 40 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh and one hour to the Pittsburgh International Airport.
