Common Roots fosters a vibrant connection between local farmers, educators, and young minds. Together, we cultivate healthy food and nurture the land that sustains us. We nourish our community not just physically, but by empowering a future rich in environmental responsibility.

Our mission is simple yet profound: to eradicate food insecurity within our community. We believe this is achievable and sustainable through a robust network of support. This includes our five educational programs, three engaging community activities, partnerships with local farms, and unwavering support from local, state, and federal entities.

What's happening at Common Roots?

About Us

Carol McQuillen, a dedicated kindergarten teacher at Orchard Elementary School for 40 years, witnessed firsthand the impact of unhealthy school lunches on her students. This motivated her to take action.

In 2005, she organized a meeting of concerned parents, teachers, and farmers to discuss health, nutrition, and food systems.

Today, Common Roots has blossomed into a thriving 501(c)3 nonprofit community organization located at the Wheeler House on Dorset,

the Food Shelf on Dorset and the

Farm Stand at South Village.
