Agriculture's Clean Water Alliance (ACWA), which marks its 25th anniversary in 2024, is comprised of ag retailers and supporters working together to improve water quality across Iowa. ACWA members agree to help farmers reach optimal crop yield and profitability while implementing the best environmental practices to preserve and protect Iowa’s water and soil.

The North Raccoon Farm to River Partnership is a three-year project managed by Agriculture’s Clean Water Alliance (ACWA) and supported by the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA), Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS).

Specific goals include installation of 15 bioreactors, 15 saturated buffers, two wetlands and 11,500 new acres of cover crops in alignment with the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy. The nearly $2 million total project focuses on watersheds in Sac, Calhoun, Carroll and Greene Counties.

Bioreactors are examples of cost-effective and voluntary solutions for improving water quality while maintaining farm profitability. READ MORE

SATURATED BUFFERS

Drainage tile from a field is redirected into a riparian buffer and distributed in tile lines running parallel to the stream.  READ MORE

WETLANDS

Targeted wetlands hold surface runoff from fields, allowing for the denitrifying process to be completed naturally.  READ MORE
