PLE Principal Update
September 7, 2021
Dear PHamily,
What an amazing feeling to see Kinder to Fifth-grade students entering our school. The first days of school flew by! We’ve been very busy learning each other’s names, revisiting our safety expectations, and learning our daily routines. Students have enjoyed peer connections during recess and our staff have created spectacular classroom environments for our Eagles. Thank you parents for supporting us during dismissal. On day 1, we were able to have all our car riders dismissed by 3:35 PM and on day 2, we were able to have all our car rider dismissed by 3:25 PM. We have about 200 students to be dismissed to cars. We appreciate your patience. If you are in a hurry, the fastest way to retrieve your child is by walking to school. Walkers are dismissed by the front office covered area. You will need to park your car on a side street and retrieve your child from the front office. Please notify your classroom teachers every time there is a change in your dismissal plan.
Our schoolwide principal's newsletter for our families will be sent monthly. PTA provides weekly communication. Please feel free to register online for this communication - go to this link and click on “Find My School” in the top right corner, then search for Phantom Lake Elementary. To register on your mobile device, download the iOS or android app, then tap on “Register” and type in our private invitation code LQE9BO.
If you missed a principal's newsletter, please go to our PLE website. We have all our newsletters listed in this link.
Warmly,
Dr. Macias, PLE Principal
Annual Reminders for Technology Responsible Use Pledge and Gaggle Monitoring
The district would like to remind all students that they are required to review the Technology Responsible Use Pledge [English][Spanish][simplified Chinese][Hindi] and then agree to honor its terms.
Additionally, the district utilizes Gaggle to monitor student communications and files. This includes emails that are sent/received to your school email address, chats in Microsoft Teams and files you store in your OneDrive. This is to help provide a safer digital learning environment for each and every student, and to prevent violence and self-harm.
Walk to School Day
This year Walk to School Day is on October 6th. Let’s celebrate by encouraging students to walk to school or their bus stop!
Ice Cream Social
Join us at our annual Ice Cream Social next week on Thursday, September 9th from 5:30-6:30 pm! The PTA’s Ice Cream Social is a fun tradition at PLE where our community of families can come enjoy a frozen treat handed out by our very own teachers and staff!
We hope to see you there!
PLE Device Deployments- Kindergarten Important Update
I hope you’re all having an amazing start to your day! The purpose of this email is to provide an update on iPad distribution. Yesterday we received news that our iPads won’t be ready for students on Wednesday, September 8th as expected. The iPads your kindergarten students will be issued are currently assigned to our second graders. As we distribute new laptops to our second graders we are also collecting their iPads. All the iPads will need to be reset (cleared) by the building Tech Specialist and then setup again with all of the school specific apps. This process is time consuming and dependent on a Microsoft application used to install apps and other programs on the iPads. Currently, this Microsoft application is taking longer than normal to apply the changes and apps for every iPad. They are working with Microsoft support to try and speed up this process.
Moving forward, the PLE plan for distributing iPads for Kindergarten will be:
- Jake Tripp, our building tech specialist, will distribute an iPad for each student in the kindergarten classroom. He will deliver one by one to each student, and make sure they can log in, access applications, etc. Your child will receive an iPad by September 10th. The iPad will be placed in their backpack to go home and students need to bring their iPad charged every day to school.
If you have any questions regarding the iPad distribution, please contact Jake Tripp at trippj@bsd405.org
Excellent Eagles
Virtue of the Month
his month's virtue is courage! Courage is a virtue when we choose to do good, especially when that is most difficult. The beginning of the school year can bring up many emotions; worry, excitement, fear, joy, and many more. No matter how we may be feeling, we can exhibit courage to help others, help ourselves, and be our best.
Here is a read-aloud about courage that you may want to share with your students: The Proudest Blue
PTA Meeting
Welcome back Eagles and welcome new phamilies! Join us for our first PTA meeting of the school year! We will be meeting in-person in the gym at PLE with plenty of spacing for everyone.
We will be voting in our new Vice President of Fundraising, brainstorming ideas for our fall Trunk or Treat event, going over details on the Read-A-Thon fundraiser and discussing ways we can be supporting our PLE community. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting whether you’re a member or not and we welcome everyone’s ideas, thoughts and comments! PTA meetings are a great chance to meet other PLE parents and have a chance to make a bigger impact on your students’ educational experiences at PLE. There will be time for Q&A and a chance to hear from Dr. Macias. We hope to see you there!
