PLE Principal Update
June 1, 2022
Dear PHamily,
Dear Phamily,
I cannot believe that we are in the last month of the 2021-2022 school year. This will be my last formal newsletter that I will be sending to our amazing Phamily, and of course this brings a lot of feeling. Phantom Lake has been my home for the last three years and we have accomplished so much together! I am truly grateful for all and each of you. You have been there with us through this amazing journey.
Thank you for sharing your most precious child with me. Please know that I hold a special place in my heart for each and every Eagle and you as amazing guardian.
I am so proud of all the staff and students who continue to show up every day regardless of circumstance. There is no doubt that our educators have faced many challenges over the past several years. The ability to be present each and every day for our families and students is powerful, and does not go unnoticed.
I especially want to congratulate our 4th and 5th grade soccer players for their fantastic victory over Lake Hills Elementary on Wednesday! For the first time in history, PLE has defeated Lake Hills and took home the championship trophy! We are so proud of the dedication and practice these students put in over the past few weeks. Of course, huge KUDOS to Jorge for coaching and leading! We are proud of our Eagles!!!
In partnership,
Dr. Macias, PLE Principal

PLE Multicultural Day
As we near the end of the school year, we want to take an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our school community. On June 3rd, we will be inviting students to a PLE Multicultural Day. Each classroom will provide time and space for students to share about their heritage, whether that be through an artifact, story, traditional dress, or beyond! We invite your child to participate by bringing in something to share about their family on this special day. We can't wait to celebrate all of our amazing and diverse Eagles at PLE!

Phantom Lake’s Annual Book Exchange- June 13th - 17th
Yes, it’s time once again to clean out those bookcases of older books that you have read, re-read and don’t want to read again and bring them in to the book exchange. All students are invited to participate in this great event. Here’s how it works:
- Clean out the bookcases at home and check with your parents to make sure it’s OK to bring these books in for the exchange.
- Bring them into the library during the week of June 6th – June 10th before school or after school. For each book you will receive a ticket. Please limit books to 20 per student. The last day to bring books in is June 13th.
- This year the book exchange will be June 13th -17th. On those two days you can trade those tickets for a new to you book during class time or after school. The final day to trade tickets for books is June 17th. Every student gets to choose at least one new to them book even if they do not bring any books for the exchange.
What kinds of books do we accept? Well, just about anything that is in good shape except magazines and adult books. We will take books that are for older kids since we have kids moving on to middle school.
So, get those books out, dust them off and turn them in starting next week! If you have questions, call Mrs. Demmler at 425-456-5610. We are looking forward to an exciting book exchange again this year!
*The Library is closed on Wednesday, June 15th.

Virtue of the Month
In May we highlighted perseverance and continued recognizing our students with virtue certificates. As we head into June, we will be celebrating kindness for our Virtue of the Month. We are so proud of all of our Eagles and know that they all find ways to show kindness to their peers and teachers each and every day. A great book to highlight kindness is "Last Stop on Market Street". In this story, CJ's grandmother shows him all the ways we show kindness to each other. 📚Last Stop on Market Street // A READ ALOUD
Transportation Update
Parent Portal Users
This message informs you that there will be an equipment upgrade to the Parent Portal in Edulog to improve your user experience. Some of you may be experiencing challenges accessing information, as some may not see the bus's location while en route.
Thank you to those who have informed us of this situation, as we are aware and currently working to resolve issues by planning an upgrade of the equipment with the vendor. Also, we will shut down the system during summer break to complete the upgrades in preparation for the start of the school year this fall. You will receive a text message via the Parent Portal system with status updates. We strive to have these updates completed before the new school year begins. We appreciate your patience.
Bus Riders
Please keep your student's scan card in a safe place and do not throw it away. We will use that same card for next school year, and your help in storing it for later use will aid us in our goal to create sustainable tools that can be reused. However, replacements will be available by request by sending an email to: bsdbuspass@bsd405.org.
We genuinely appreciate your time and attention this year as we work first to keep students safe, closely followed by providing an efficient transportation service. Working together, we will reach our aim.

Bellevue SchoolPool Transportation Survey
The City of Bellevue is seeking travel data on how students travel to and from school. This annual survey will help them evaluate strategies for the Bellevue SchoolPool program, which aims to reduce drop-off and pick-up congestion at schools.
Please consider participating in their short, five-question survey for each school-aged child. The survey closes after Wednesday, June 8. Complete the survey.
If you have questions, please contact Stela Nikolova, Bellevue SchoolPool Program Lead, at snikolova@bellevuewa.gov.
Student Devices
At the end of this school year, the tech department will be collecting all student devices (with the exception of Kindergarten iPads) for updates and reimaging over the summer. Please read below for details:
- Kindergarten: Students will keep the iPad that has been assigned to them if they are returning to a BSD school next year. If they are moving or withdrawing from BSD at the end of this year, they will need to turn their iPad in to the front office.
- 1st-5th grade: Students must turn in their devices by Monday 6/13 to their classroom teacher. First graders will turn in their iPads and chargers; 2-5th grade will turn in their laptops and chargers. When students return in the fall they will receive a new laptop.
- For students participating in summer school, the technology department will provide them with a device at the start of summer school. For students that do not have a device at home and would like one to use over the summer, the technology department will also issue a device for the student to use over the summer. At the beginning of the 2022 – 2023 school year, all students that are issued a device to use over the summer, will be required to turn in that device to receive their previous device back.
Boys and Girls Club - Last day for school year is June 10th
Donate for Fall School Supplies!
Dear PLE Phamilies,
For a number of years now, the Phantom Lake PTA has purchased school supplies for the entire school. As our mission is to empower every student for success at PLE, we feel this is a great way for us to support both the school, students and phamilies by taking the stress of shopping (and paying) for school supplies off your shoulders. We are committed to providing school supplies for all students at PLE again next year!
From Friday, May 27 - Sunday, June 12, we are raising money to contribute toward our Back to School Supplies fund! $20 buys enough supplies for 1 student and $100 buys supplies for 5 students. If you are able, please consider donating for more than your own child so that all of our students can start the new school year fully equipped to learn!
To donate, go online to https://www.memberplanet.com/campaign/phantomlakepta/schoolsupplies. We will also accept cash or check (made out to Phantom Lake PTA) donations dropped off at the Front Office; please include a note that the donation is for school supplies.
Thank you for your support for our students and their academic success at PLE!
Last PTA Meeting!
All PLE parents, whether you’re a PTA member or not, are invited attend to our last PTA meeting of the school year this week on Thursday, June 2nd at 6:30pm in the gym!

We will also hear one last PLE update from Dr Macias. This is a great chance for parents to have time to connect with other PLE parents & PTA members. We hope you will join us!
