The Growing Need

More of our friends and loved ones are confronting the hardest battle of their life. Each day more than 160 cancer patients are cared for at Monument Health’s Cancer Care Institute.

On especially busy days, that number can rise to 200. While our physicians and caregivers are offering the best care possible, they are simply running out of space.

“Time and again, our communities have proven that we can step up, take care of our neighbors and meet the needs of our growing region. This is one of those times. We need to do this for the patients we’re treating today and for the patients we will treat in the future.

No one wants to see someone go through cancer treatments. No one wants their friend, their family member or even themselves to have to pull together the strength to battle this disease. That’s why we need the best place for our patients to summon the courage it takes to fight cancer. We will do this by expanding the Cancer Care Institute and creating a place that further utilizes the newest technology, has exceptional medical staff working collaboratively and provides a comfortable environment for care. That’s the reason I am behind this plan, and I think it’s one our communities can get behind, too. We are building hope.”

A multidisciplinary approach

A cancer diagnosis upends a person’s life like few things can.

Questions of treatment options, availability of clinical trials and which appointments to schedule first can overwhelm and exhaust a patient already dealing with what is one of the most stressful events in his or her life.

Monument Health believes the solution is an integrated approach to care, where the patient and their family would attend multidisciplinary conferences with doctors and caregivers to navigate the specialized path ahead. Monument Health’s inclusion in the Mayo Clinic Care Network means collaboration with some of brightest minds in medicine is only a video conference away.

“Simply stated, the Cancer Care Institute has significantly outgrown its current space over the last 20 years, and this expansion is a way to meet the needs of the community. Similar to other medical services provided in this region, the community deserves access to a state-of-the-art, modern cancer center that offers treatment for nearly 99% of all the cancers seen.

Our vision is to offer multidisciplinary care in one setting as opposed to patients having to travel to multiple clinics to receive the necessary opinions prior to initiating cancer treatment.”
