The Mid-America Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Mid-America ATTC) is a partnership between University Health Behavioral Health (UH-BH) and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing and Health Studies (UMKC SoNHS). Mid-America ATTC serves the states of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska (Region 7).

Mid-America ATTC Vision: All people accessing services for a substance use disorder in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska will receive treatment and recovery support rooted in evidence-based and promising practices.

Mid-America ATTC Mission: To accomplish this, Mid-America ATTC supports multidisciplinary practitioners, agencies, and communities in implementing evidence-based practices. We do this by:

  • building coalitions and improving coordination of services
  • leading in-person and virtual learning communities
  • disseminating information and resources
  • ensuring that research is accessible and useful to practitioners, and
  • supporting organizations in their adoption of innovative practices.

Face-to-Face Training
The Mid-America ATTC Leadership Institute Immersion Training takes place Monday, April 29 – Friday, May 3! Twelve Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska will engage in this in-depth program for emerging and existing behavioral health leaders. The weeklong Immersion Training provides opportunities to build community, discuss current and future challenges, network, and receive leadership advice from behavioral health experts. It will include a shadow consulting field trip to an agency that provides supportive housing, family empowerment, and therapeutic services for families with substance use disorder. Participants will also discuss their StrengthsFinder 2.0 results and attend workshops on the following topics: Leadership Fuel, Finding Harmony in the Hustle, Intentional Leadership, and Self-Care Reimagined. Face-to-Face Training
Stigma is a factor that can prevent those with substance use disorders from receiving evidence-based practices that allow them to seek and stay in recovery. This training is led by someone with lived experience of drug use, overdose, and navigating the care continuum to eventually becoming a Peer Recovery Support Specialist. We will look at this story and the role stigma played in delaying and distressing the recovery process. Participants will have the opportunity to observe how stigma affects their own experiences and discuss ways to shift attitudes and improve actions which lead to better outcomes and more people in recovery. This training will take place at the Midwest Conference on Problem Gambling and Substance Abuse.
Webinar/Virtual Training
Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) consists of a basic introduction of the 15 standards that provide a framework for organizations, teams, or departments to extend and support cultural responsivity within an operating system Cultural Awareness with CLAS will provide a basic introduction to the CLAS standards and explore ways to apply and integrate the standards in practice. The overall goal is to improve service delivery and yield compassionate outcomes that are inclusive, diverse, and respectful to marginalized populations.

Invitation to Change Approach Training Application
The Invitation to Change (ITC) is a holistic helping model for families affected by substance use, drawing from concepts also found in CRAFT, MI, and ACT. Participants will leave the training with a complete set of tools for empowering families to support their loved ones effectively. More about the approach here. The deadline to apply is April 19, 2024. This training is a collaboration with the Great Lakes ATTC, South Southwest ATTC, Mountain Plains ATTC, Northwest ATTC, South Southeast ATTC, Mid America ATTC, and the ATTC Network Coordinating Office.
