Watch this: “Grease” at Pilsen’s ChiTownMovies
This 1978 musical may be more “beloved” than “good,” but with numbers like “Born to Hand Jive” and “We Go Together,” plus that scene at the drive-in movie, what better place to revisit the John Travolta/Olivia Newton-John smash than an actual drive-in? Pilsen’s ChiTownMovies keeps a busy schedule going most of the year; “Grease” slides onto the calendar Tuesday for a cool $33 a carload (limit six adults per greased-lighting hot rod or, in my case, per Honda Fit). If only we had someone on staff here at the Tribune to offer a pre-show dining suggestion … wait! I know! Louisa Chu! ChiTownMovies, 2343 S. Throop St., chitownmovies.com — Michael Phillips
Eat that: Carnitas Uruapan
¡Gracias Michael! You can order food and drink right at the drive-in, including one free small popcorn per car, but I can’t wait that late for dinner. Since you’ll be in Pilsen, go before the show to Carnitas Uruapan, currently open for takeout only. Inocencio Carbajal founded the family business in 1975 with his signature slow-cooked pork and crackling crunchy chicharrones. Son Marcos Carbajal expanded the menu a bit, keeping the terrific tacos, of course, and added a second location in Gage Park, where you’ll find indoor seating and creative paletas for those oh, oh, summer nights. 1725 W. 18th St., 312-226-2654; 2813 W. 55th St., 773-424-7617; carnitasuruapanchi.com — Louisa Chu
