Biography

2019-20 - Appeared in 31 games starting in 30 games in year two for the Lions... Was a finalist for the Bevo Francis Small College Basketball Player of the Year Award after being named first-team All-MIAA, All-Region and All-American while also being a member of the MIAA All-Tournament Team... Led the MIAA in scoring, rebounds, defensive rebounds, double-doubles, free throw attempts, free throws made, total field goals made, total points and total rebounds, while ranking second in blocks, field goal percentage, total blocks and total field goal attempts. Averaged 24.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 58 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line... Had a team high 46 blocks and was third on the team with 61 assists and set the Southern single-game scoring mark with 54 points versus Missouri Western on the road (the most points scored by a Division II player in a single-game this season)... Is the only player in Southern's history to score 700 or more points twice in a single-season and currently has the top career scoring average with 23.3 ranking third among active D-II players for that stat... Named the MIAA Athlete of the Week seven times during the regular season... Part of the Lions team that finished No. 1 in the MIAA in scoring offense (84.8), scoring margin (13.5), total rebounds (1,192), rebounds per game (38.5) while finishing in the top-3 in field goal percentage (.486), three-point percentage (.379), three-point field goals made (323), three-point field goals attempted (853), free-throw percentage (.779), free-throws attempted (592), free-throws made (461), offensive rebounds (330), rebounding margin (7.3), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.29), blocked shots (107), assists (461)... While ranked in the top-20 nationally in two categories: 12th in scoring margin (13.5) and 14th in rebounding margin (7.3)... One of four Lions to land on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

2018-19 - Appeared and started in 32 games for the Lions after transferring from Jacksonville State … D2CCA All-American Third Team selection … D2CCA and NABC All-Central Region First Team selection … All-MIAA First Team selection … one of two newcomers/transfers to land on the MIAA Academic Honor roll (3.19) … averaged 33.7 points and 12.5 rebounds during the Division II Central Region tournament as he tied the MSSU single-game three-point record with nine made against Washburn (3/16) in the opening game … added 46 points in the same game and stands tenth on the all-time list for points in a Division II tournament game … transformed into the second Lions to score over 700 plus points (720 in a single-season joining former Lion Taevaunn Prince … the sophomore averaged 22.5 points and 9.7 rebounds, while shooting 61 percent from the field, 35 percent from the three-point line, and 82 percent at the free-throw line … finished first in the MIAA in points per game, Double-doubles (20), field-goal percentage (60.8), free throws made and attempted (211/257) good for third and fourth in the country, and defensive rebounds per game (7.53) while taking second in total points and total rebounds (310) which slotted him 12th and 15th respectively throughout the Division II landscape … registered double-digit scoring in every game played … also part of squad that finished No. 1 in the MIAA in scoring offense (86.7), total rebounds (1,279), rebounds per game (38.76), assists (550), three-point field goals per game (10.9), free-throw attempts (730), and free throws made (531) on top of finishing top-20 in the country in ten categories: sixth in three-point field goals (966), eighth in three-point field goals made (359), 13th in total assists, 14th in three-point field goal per game, 15th in free throws made and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.49), 16th in in free-throw attempts and defensive rebounds per game (28.55), and 17th in scoring offense and total rebounds.

Prior to Southern - Martin comes to the Lions after a year at Jacksonville State University in the Ohio Valley Conference ... As a freshman, Martin saw action in 28 games for JSU, averaging 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest, while shooting 51 percent from the field and averaging 9.8 minutes per game ... He had two double-doubles on the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Austin Peay and a 10-point, 10-rebound game against Belmont.
 
High School - Martin prepped at Yukon High School, in Yukon, Okla., helping the team to the OSSAA state finals after helping lead Norman North High School to a state runner-up title during his junior year ... Martin was regarded as a preseason top five high school senior in the state of Oklahoma and was a First Team All-State, First Team All-Region and First Team All-District recipient ... He was named to the Oklahoma All-State, All-City and Oklahoma vs. Texas All-Star teams. Martin played club basketball with the Oklahoma Wizards and sported a 3.8 GPA in the classroom ... Martin averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds a game as a senior, 25 points and 13 rebounds as a junior and 16 points and 10 rebounds as a sophomore for coach Scott Raper and the Millers ... As a freshman, he helped his team to a 27-1 record, while helping the team to a Regional Championship as a sophomore and a State Finals appearance as a senior.
