Jeff Boschee is in his eighth season as the head coach of the Missouri Southern basketball program after serving four seasons as an assistant and associate head coach. Boschee led the Lions to another winning record as Southern went 13-10 in the shortened season and made another trip to the MIAA Basketball Tournament. Cam Martin was a unanimous first-team All-MIAA selection as he was joined on the All-MIAA team with Stan Scott who earned third-team honors.

Martin ended his three-year career with the Lions and will go down as one of the best players to ever wear the Green and Gold. In just three short years, Martin finished with 2,040 points which is second-most all-time in MSSU school history. Martin was a three-time All-American and All-Region selection and was one of only five active players to have 2,000 points and 800 rebounds at the end of the season. Martin holds the MSSU career records for scoring average (23.7) and free throws attempted (637), while ranking third in career rebounds (803), fourth in field goal percentage (.589) and fifth in blocked shots (103). Martin's 54 points is the second-most points ever scored in an MIAA game and his 2,040 points put him at fifth all-time on the MIAA career scoring list.

The 2019-20 season saw the Lions reach the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year and became the only program in Southern history to accomplish that feat. The team also won 20 games for the third-straight year, finishing with a record of 23-8 before the season was cut short prematurely. The Lions were ranked in the NABC National Poll from start to finish throughout the season.

The seniors of 19-20 will go down as one of the most successful classes in MSSU history, having won 86 games (86-38) over their careers. That win number is third-highest over any four-year period in MSSU history following 1999-03 (90) and 2010-14 (87). The class made four-straight MIAA Tournaments and three-straight NCAA Tournaments. Elyjah Clark finished his career with 1,813 points, which sits as the fourth-most ever scored in Southern history. His 365 three pointers are the most ever in Southern history and were just six from breaking the MIAA record. Martin became the only Missouri Southern player to ever score 700 points twice in a career and was a first-team All-MIAA and All-Region selection, while also earning All-American honors and a spot on the MIAA All-Tournament Team. Martin moved up to No. 10 in the career-scoring list in Southern history as he has scored 1,466 points in his short two-year career. Along that same line, the Lions also broke the record of three point attempts, shooting 966 three-pointers, breaking the previous record by 300 attempts.

Cam Martin was a first-team All-MIAA and All-Region pick, while being named to the Central Region All-Tournament Team. Cam became just the second Lion ever to score more than 700 points in a season as he scored 720, joining Taevaunn Prince in the 700 point club. Elyjah Clark, Kinzer Lambert and Braelon Walker all earned All-MIAA status, while Clark and Lambert both went over 1,000 points in their respective careers. CJ Carr was a first-team All-MIAA and All-Region selection, while Elyjah Clark earned second-team All-MIAA honors and Kinzer Lambert was an honorable mention pick. Carr was a member of the MIAA All-Defensive Team. Carr led the MIAA in steals and assists, while ranking fifth in scoring and second in minutes. He also ranked 17th nationally in steals and 19th in assists per game. Carr finished his career with 1,111 points and moved up the all-time scoring ladder in MSSU history into 14th place. Southern was also the only team during the 2016-17 season to defeat eventual National Champion Northwest Missouri as the Lions defeated the Bearcats 88-71 at home in February.

Year two saw Boschee help coach the nation's top scorer as Taevaunn Prince led the NCAA in scoring with 26.4 points per game. Prince was a first-team All-MIAA pick, while also earning All-Region and All-American honors. In the process, Prince broke the MSSU single-season record for scoring and free throws made, while also breaking the MSSU single-season scoring average and career marks in that category.
